Assistant Store Manager

Location: St. Joseph, MO

Pay: $16.00 per hour

Job Type: Full-Time

Schedule: 40 hours per week, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled

About The Role

Join The Salvation Army in Doing the Most Good as an Assistant Store Manager . In this leadership role, you'll support the Store Manager in overseeing daily retail operations, staff supervision, production, sales performance, customer service, safety compliance, and store presentation.

This position is ideal for candidates with retail leadership experience who enjoy developing teams, driving store performance, and making a positive impact in their community. Through your work, you'll help generate critical funding that supports The Salvation Army's life-changing programs and services.

What You'll Do

Leadership & Team Development

• Assist with training, coaching, and supervising store staff
• Provide leadership and guidance during daily operations
• Support employee development and promote a positive team culture
• Assist with staffing, scheduling, and operational planning
• Help ensure policies and procedures are consistently followed

Store Operations & Sales

• Support the implementation of strategies to achieve production and sales goals
• Assist in managing day-to-day store operations
• Monitor store performance and identify opportunities for improvement
• Help maintain appropriate inventory flow and merchandise availability
• Support loss prevention efforts and product control procedures to minimize shrinkage

Store Appearance & Safety

• Ensure the store is clean, organized, safe, and customer-ready
• Assist in maintaining attractive merchandising and displays
• Support compliance with OSHA regulations and Salvation Army safety policies
• Monitor facility conditions and communicate maintenance needs

Customer Experience & Community Relations

• Deliver exceptional customer service and create a positive shopping environment
• Support customer retention and community engagement initiatives
• Address customer concerns professionally and effectively
• Represent The Salvation Army positively in the community
• Support and uphold The Salvation Army's mission and values

Administrative Responsibilities

• Assist with banking procedures and daily financial processes
• Maintain operational records and required documentation
• Provide information for employee evaluations and corrective actions
• Communicate regularly with the Store Manager regarding store operations
• Complete additional duties and special projects as assigned

Training Provided

Qualifications

Required Education

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent

Preferred Experience

• Retail leadership, supervisory, or management experience preferred
• Experience in customer service, merchandising, sales, or store operations
• Cash handling, banking, and inventory management experience preferred

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
• Frequent reaching, bending, stooping, and lifting
• Regularly lift and move up to 25 pounds
• Ability to work in a retail environment with moderate noise levels
• Exposure to seasonal temperature fluctuations and dusty conditions
