Assistant Store Manager
Lead a high-energy retail team and help create an exceptional customer experience as an Assistant Store Manager. This hands-on leadership role is ideal for an experienced retail, grocery, food service, or merchandising professional who enjoys working on the sales floor, developing employees, solving operational challenges, and driving store performance.
- Lead by example on the sales floor while supporting employees, department managers, and customers in a fast-paced retail environment
- Create a positive, professional, and customer-focused store culture
- Engage with customers, answer questions, resolve concerns, and ensure a memorable shopping experience
- Monitor product quality, freshness, rotation, sanitation, and food-safety standards
- Help ensure a safe environment for customers, employees, equipment, and company property
- Enforce store policies, procedures, and operational expectations consistently
- Delegate daily responsibilities and follow up to ensure tasks are completed accurately and on time
- Assist with employee scheduling, time and attendance monitoring, and staffing coverage needs
- Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, train, coach, and develop team members
- Address performance concerns and support corrective action when needed, including disciplinary documentation
- Partner with department leaders to monitor performance, identify opportunities, and improve results
- Train employees on the safe and proper use of store equipment
- Support merchandising, selling initiatives, inventory awareness, and overall store presentation
Assistant Store Manager Background Profile:
- Prior leadership experience in retail, grocery, food service, hospitality, or a similar customer-facing environment
- Strong knowledge of perishable products, product rotation, food safety, and quality standards
- Proven ability to coach, train, motivate, and hold employees accountable
- Excellent customer service, communication, and conflict-resolution skills
- Strong organization, prioritization, and problem-solving abilities
- Confidence in making decisions in a busy, fast-moving environment
- Basic computer, math, scheduling, and data-entry skills
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to travel between local store locations as needed
- Must be at least 21 years old
Retail Grocery Or Specialty Food Experience Preferred
- Strong merchandising and product-presentation skills preferred
- Sales-focused mindset with the ability to identify opportunities to improve customer engagement and store performance preferred
- Experience managing teams, scheduling employees, or supporting multi-department operations preferred
