POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in promoting a customer- and product-focused sales culture. The role oversees sales operations, asset protection, and human resources functions to ensure a great customer experience and maximum profitability. The manager works to maintain the brand’s values and guiding principles throughout all store operations.
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Performance Culture
- Analyzes sales reports and KPIs to determine business needs, and together with the Store Manager executes in‑store business and sales strategies.
- Establishes and communicates clear expectations, holding the store team and himself accountable for achieving all brand, performance, and behavior standards.
- Controls payroll and supply budget.
- Oversees basic operational activities such as scheduling, shrink audits, physical inventory, opening and closing duties, time‑sheet review, and payroll accuracy documents.
- Manages all financial activities in accordance with policy, including cash handling, price changes, and merchandise handling; ensures register transactions are completed accurately.
- Ensures compliance with applicable laws, loss‑prevention policies, operating procedures, and controls; conducts associate training to reinforce proper controls.
- Administers operational processes, including inventory receipt/dispatch, daily replenishment of floor merchandise levels, and physical inventories.
- Maintains visual presentation, organization, and facility maintenance that represent the brand.
- Develops a high‑performance culture and motivates the sales team to meet sales and productivity goals.
- Trains and coaches the team to be fluent in all aspects of product knowledge online and in store.
- Assists with locate fulfillment and selling.
Building High Performing Teams
- Motivates and inspires the store team while developing a shared vision and modeling core values.
- Promotes an inclusive, collaborative approach to problem solving.
- Communicates with store teams and the Store Manager to lead positive change.
- Seeks personal developmental opportunities and solicits feedback to build leadership skills.
Customer Experience
- Models, teaches, and promotes the Most Amazing Personal Service (MAPS) principles to offer a cohesive omni‑channel experience.
- Uses various selling techniques and product knowledge to recommend merchandise and help customers locate or obtain items according to their needs.
- Ensures prompt resolution of customer concerns.
- Maintains a fast and efficient register experience, staying current on payment policies, coupon acceptance, returns, exchanges, security practices, and other applicable operations.
- Encourages the team to maintain consistent client communication through customer books, rewards program participation, and customer capture sign‑ups.
Talent
- Assists in recruiting, hiring, and developing a high‑performing team.
- Supports, implements, and follows up on all training programs and seminars.
- Assesses and coaches the store team on performance.
- Works with the Store Manager to resolve human resources issues promptly and effectively.
- Drives associate and team engagement by recognizing and rewarding outstanding performance.
- Ensures the store team adheres to all employment practices and policies.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred: 2+ years of retail management experience.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills.
- Ability to learn or adapt to technology provided by the company.
- Proven customer service excellence with a track record in sales and leadership.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong leadership qualities, training, and team‑building skills.
- Knowledge of administrative aspects of store operations.
- Regular attendance essential; must work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Constant walking/standing – 67–100% of an 8‑hour shift.
- Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. – 1–33% of an 8‑hour shift.
- Frequent climbing – 34–66% of an 8‑hour shift.
