Summary
The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, "to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests." Additionally, AIT and Assistant Managers perform sales, merchandising and operational tasks. They work directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new teammates and provide leadership. The Assistant Manager Position is a progression from the AIT position and therefore includes additional duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Sales Generation and Guest Service
- Greet Guests with a friendly, engaging attitude.
- Answer questions regarding the store and its merchandise.
- Recommend and help locate merchandise based on Guest needs.
- Anticipate and fulfill Guest’s needs by suggesting additional items.
- Demonstrate products utilizing product knowledge and sales education.
- Maintain knowledge of current sales and promotions.
- Achieve personal sales-per-hour, average sales and total net sales goals.
- Provide legendary service throughout the store in front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and the register area.
- Be knowledgeable of exchange and return procedures for Guests.
- Fill out the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG) daily to accomplish goals.
- Meet or exceed performance standards in all Buckle business builders and guest loyalty categories.
- Investigate and navigate how to expand Guest selection through inventory management and other tools.
- Maintain and build good Guest relationships.
- Lead by example with showmanship, excellent customer service, and attentiveness.
- Recognize and communicate Guest Levels with the Team.
- Ask business-driven and showmanship questions to Manager, Team Leaders and Teammates.
- Coachable and welcomes feedback from Manager.
- Perform leadership actions and maintain high standards, whether or not the Manager is present.
- Plan sales goals with Store Manager.
- Demonstrate ownership of store’s sales performance.
- Show passion for product education and showmanship.
Teammate Recruiting, Training and Development
- Recognize recruiting opportunities using Jobs & Careers cards, email referrals and Teammate Recommend.
- Coach and create relationships through Guest Loyalty and Guest Preferred.
- Develop skills and assist in leading, motivating and educating new Teammates.
- Maintain a positive attitude and create a positive floor culture.
- Demonstrate personal dress code to coach teammates in fashion.
- Participate effectively in daily setups, training, and performance tracking.
- Motivate teammates to complete daily tasks set by Store Management.
- Influence results of denim showmanship and denim fit cards.
- Create results within your department and balance all DM actions.
- Execute actions from department calendars on the Weekly Delegation Worksheet.
- Engage guests with product and update fellow leaders and Team.
- Remember Guest names and utilize them effectively.
- Partner with Store Manager to pick the store’s education focus.
- Help execute all segments and support business goals.
- Assist Store Manager in recruitment for all store staffing needs.
- Explain pay and Buckle benefits.
- Maintain contact list and add top talent consistently.
- Execute training on Leadership playbook.
- Own and influence product through zone ownership.
- Recognize visual merchandising opportunities and communicate recommendations.
- Provide informational store tours.
- Ensure sales floor is consistently sized and new freight displayed.
- Improve store performance via Performance Tracker.
- Observe visual standards on floor and backroom.
Operations
- Work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, and weekends, and around holidays.
- Utilize planner, completing Opening and Closing checklists.
- Recognize security risks and handle theft situations.
- Follow Loss Prevention guidelines.
- Teach all POS procedures.
- Handle corporate office calls appropriately.
- Maintain a positive attitude in challenging situations.
- Execute policies regarding payments, returns, exchanges, and Loss Prevention.
- Navigate all tools on the homepage.
- Provide guidance to non-sales positions.
- Cover shifts when needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized store.
- Provide feedback on merchandise handling concerns.
- Communicate policy violations and concerns to Manager, District Manager, or HR.
- Apply Buckle’s Code of Ethics and policies.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Complete new hire paperwork promptly.
- Plan week, month, and year schedules.
- Train others on opening/closing checklist.
- Execute markdowns, pulls, inbound/outbound freight, recalls, Return to Vendors.
- Establish relationships with Corporate Office Departments.
- Maintain inventory of supplies.
- Handle emergencies in Store Manager’s absence.
Supervisory and Leadership
- Comfortable giving and receiving feedback.
- Supportive of Leadership.
- Promote personal and store growth.
- Maintain professional, mature relationships with teammates.
- Execute daily interviews as needed.
- Overcome objections and problem solve.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Assists the Store Manager in supervising.
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or GED; or one to three months related retail experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Qualifications
- Relocation may be required.
