Assistant Resident EngineerRK&K is seeking a dedicated Assistant Resident Engineer to support and manage NCDOT construction projects in Boone, NC. As an Assistant Resident Engineer, you will use your expertise in roadway/bridge construction, project management, and quality control (QA/QC) in support of complex highway and bridge construction projects.Essential FunctionsDirectly supervise and provide engineering-level support for transportation technicians and inspectorsProvide prompt, professional public relations responses to various inquiries from the public, NCDOT officials, and other government agenciesConduct daily coordination with contractors, NCDOT and project staffMake critical field engineering decisionsConduct environmental reviews and manage erosion control effortsPerform contract administration and project management activities such as estimates, claims and change orders, supplemental agreements, monthly construction meetings, environmental compliance etcMonitor and resolve maintenance of traffic (MOT) issues as they occurCoordinate utility relocationsManage transportation technician teams as neededParticipate in progress meetings and provide regular updates to the resident engineer and project stakeholdersEnsure all work is completed in accordance with safety regulations, plans and specificationsRequired Skills and ExperienceBachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management or related from an ABET accredited UniversityMinimum of three (3) years of progressive experience in similar rolesExperience reading and interpreting highway and bridge construction plans and contractsExperience managing and/or training teams of technicians or inspectorsContract Administration and/or Project Management experience on highway construction projectsMust have experience in MS Office / Office 365 and the ability to use mobile technologyExtensive knowledge of general concepts, practices, theories used in construction, construction inspection and surveyingPreferred Skills and ExperienceLicensed Professional Engineer (P.E.)Certified Construction Manager (CCM) or Certified Associate Construction Manager (CACM)Experience managing NCDOT ProjectsPhysical DemandsThis role requires the ability to perform field inspections on active construction sites. The employee must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, navigate uneven terrain, and climb ladders or stairs.
Ability to lift and carry inspection equipment and materials weighing up to 20–30 pounds on an occasional basis, with or without reasonable accommodation.
