# **Job Description Summary**Organization's Summary Statement: IBBR is a joint research enterprise of the University of Maryland, College Park, the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology. IBBR leverages state-of-art integrative methods for bioanalytical, biophysical and structural characterization of biomolecules: cryo-electron microscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance, x-ray crystallography, small angle neutron and x-ray scattering and mass spectrometry. IBBR researchers seek to advance therapeutic development, biomanufacturing, and state-of-the-art measurement technologies, to support accelerated delivery of safe and effective medicines to the public. IBBR is a major initiative and supported in part by the University of Maryland Strategic Partnership: MPowering the State (MPower), an initiative designed to achieve innovation and impact through collaboration. Job Description Summary: The Institute for Bioscience and Biotechnology Research (IBBR) is seeking an Assistant Research Professor in the area of process characterization, modeling (digital twin) and control for biomanufacturing, with a focus on applications to mammalian cell bioprocesses. The successful candidate will coordinate interactions with internal and external collaborators and facility users. They are expected to be involved directly in research, both through leading their own novel research and through consultation, assistance and/or collaboration on projects with facility users. As needed, they will support and train internal students and postdocs, as well as external users from other institutions. The biomanufacturing testbed facility is underpinned by a newly developed NIST reference material (RM), so called NISTCHO. NISTCHO is a CHO cell line expressing the amino acid sequences of the NISTmAb. In the biomanufacturing testbeds, the NISTCHO and its product, the cNISTmAb, are being used to develop and evaluate upstream and downstream processes and study the effect of process modifications on product CQAs. The testbeds are also being used to explore new process monitoring technologies for upstream analysis such as new probes, developed for in-line and at-line monitoring. Minimum Qualifications: Education: Ph.D. in in bioengineering, biochemical engineering, chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics, or related fields. Experience: At least 3 years of prior experience working with bioprocess characterization, monitoring and modeling; experience in managing research projects, drafting reports and proposal, representing research programs to external stakeholders and providing training in research techniques.
