Position Summary

Trinity College’s Department of Language and Culture Studiesinvites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor with aspecialization in postcolonial Francophone Studies, beginning July1, 2027. The Department of Language and Culture Studies offerscourses in nine different languages and is committed to innovationin pedagogy across all levels of our curriculum. We are seekingcandidates with a record of excellence in scholarship and teachingand whose research centers on Caribbean, North African, and/orsub-Saharan African literature and culture, of any historicalperiod. The successful candidate will be expected to expand ourcourse offerings in postcolonial Francophone studies, teach coursesat all levels of French language as well as generalist courses infrancophone literatures, provide courses in English that supportour African and/or Caribbean Studies programs on campus, andparticipate actively in the service of our department.

Qualifications

The teaching load is typically 5 courses per year, but new hiresteach a 2-2 load in their first two years. Applicants are expectedto have native or near-native fluency in French and English.Knowledge of another language related to the candidate’s geographicfocus is desirable (including but not limited to Arabic, Wolof, orHaitian Creole). A PhD in French and Francophone Studies isrequired by July 1, 2027
