College for Health, Community and Policy

UT San Antonio\'s College for Health, Community and Policy trains students to develop solutions for complex social issues to improve the well-being of communities. By engaging with the City of San Antonio and other community partners, students and faculty advance the college\'s mission. The college is comprised of seven academic departments and one program — criminology and criminal justice, kinesiology, nutrition and dietetics, psychology, public administration, public health, social work and sociology and demography — as well as several centers and institutes. Department of Psychology

The Department of Psychology hosts one of the largest majors on campus (over 2,200 students) and offers degree programs at the BA, MS, and PhD level. Students at each level have opportunities to assist in faculty research. The department has 22 tenured and tenure-track faculty and 5 fixed-term, full-time teaching faculty and collaborates with researchers at the US Army Research Institute and with various industry and community partners. Salary Range: Up to $55,000 annualized, commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.

Position Summary

The Department of Psychology invites applications for a Full-Time Assistant Professor of Instruction. This non-tenure track or Fixed-Term Track (FTT) position offers a dynamic teaching environment with a workload focused on instruction and a smaller service component. The workload may be four courses per semester (80% teaching, 20% service) or a four-five or five-four teaching load (90% teaching, 10% service).

The successful candidate will deliver high-quality instruction to undergraduate students, including course preparation, classroom instruction, assessment of student learning, and timely communication with students. The candidate will contribute to the broader mission of the department and should have experience with teaching across a variety of modalities, though teaching will be primarily face-to-face.

UTSA offers a Professor of Instruction career ladder with opportunities for promotion. This position is not a pathway to a tenure-track role.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Psychology or a closely-related discipline.
• Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching undergraduate-level courses, evidenced by teaching evaluations, syllabi samples, or other relevant documentation.
• This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2 years of teaching experience as an instructor of record (not as a graduate teaching assistant).
• Undergraduate teaching experience in one or more of: Behavior Analysis and Learning, Experimental Psychology, Experimental Lab, Introduction to Clinical Psychology, Introduction to Psychology, Introduction to Psychopathology, Lifespan Developmental Psychology, Physiological Psychology, Sensation and Perception, and/or Statistics for Psychology.
• Experience using evidence-based and/or active learning teaching methods across online and/or in-person settings.
• Engagement in service related to undergraduate students, including curriculum and competency development, advising, and recruitment/retention is preferred.
• Commitment to student success and retention.
• Effective collaboration with faculty, staff, and students.
