Position Overview
The Department of Biology at the University of the South seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Integrative Biology to begin August 2027.
Position Description
The Department of Biology at the University of the South (commonly known as Sewanee) seeks applications for an Assistant Professor in Integrative Biology. We seek a dynamic scholar who studies animals at multiple biological scales and whose research will meaningfully involve and engage undergraduates. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to courses in anatomy, physiology, organismal biology, ecology, or genetics. A PhD is required and post-doctoral experience preferred.
The Sewanee Biology Department is a collaborative community committed to excellence in undergraduate education, mentorship, and research. Faculty teach small classes, involve students directly in scholarship, and benefit from opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration across the sciences. Located on the Cumberland Plateau, the 13,000 acre campus encompasses some of the most biodiverse forests in the eastern United States while well-equipped lab facilities support a broad range of molecular, organismal, ecological, and environmental research. The Biology Department spans Molecular Biology and Genetics, Integrative Biology, and Ecology and Biodiversity while contributing to interdisciplinary majors in Biochemistry, Neuroscience, and Environment and Sustainability and a thriving pre-health program. Faculty typically teach 5 classes per year with lab sections counting towards that total.
Attributes of a Successful Candidate
A PhD is required and post-doctoral experience preferred.
