Job Overview

This is a 9‑month tenure-accruing position that will be 30% teaching (College of Agricultural and Life Sciences) and 70% research (Florida Agricultural Experiment Station), available in the School of Forest Fisheries and Geomatics Sciences, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, at the University of Florida. Tenure will accrue in the School of Forest, Fisheries, and Geomatics Sciences (SFFGS).

Responsibilities

• Develop a collaborative, internationally recognized and externally funded research program focused on applications of remote sensing, geospatial analytics, and visualization technologies to marine resource management.
• Create new methods for obtaining and analyzing geospatial information on the status, use, and environment of aquatic (inland, coastal, and/or marine) resources such as spatial distribution of resource abundance, fishing effort patterns, and global extent of aquaculture production using remote sensing and advanced statistical techniques.
• Teach two courses: an undergraduate‑level course of wide appeal to aquatic science, natural resources, and geomatics students, and a graduate‑level class in a specialization, with accessibility for distance students.
• Participate actively in undergraduate and graduate education by chairing and serving on graduate committees, supervising thesis and dissertation research, supervising undergraduate research, and publishing results with graduate students.
• Seek contract and grant funding actively to support the program and engage in Extension activities in the program area.
• Support interdisciplinary, collaborative projects and initiatives across various departments and centers at IFAS and UF.
• Engage in scholarly activities related to instruction, including teaching, advising, curriculum revision, seeking funding for teaching programs, publishing teaching‑related scholarship, and producing learning tools.

Required Qualifications

• Doctorate (or foreign equivalent) in remote sensing, fisheries or ocean sciences, geography, or geomatics.
• Demonstrated skills and experience in applying remote sensing and geospatial analysis to aquatic resources management.
• Ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams with faculty from departments and colleges outside the home academic unit.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal relationships, procurement of extramural funding, and stakeholder engagement.
• Commitment to teaching and mentoring students.
• Support for the mission of the Land‑Grant system and commitment to UF core values.

Preferred Qualifications

• Postdoctoral experience and experience with online teaching.
• Familiarity with International Hydrographic Organization mapping standards.
