Assistant Professor – Clinical Counseling Psychology Program

Overview

New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Clinical/Counseling Psychology Program to begin September 1, 2025.

The appointed faculty member will be a member of the Department of Applied Psychology. The Clinical/Counseling Psychology Program operates from a scientist-practitioner model and integrates models traditionally associated with clinical psychology and counseling psychology, which together equip students to be multi-faceted and culturally informed psychologists who are prepared for both research and clinical-practice careers. The successful applicant will join a group of psychologists who focus on a diverse set of research areas and utilize various methods and approaches to address important issues in the field of clinical and counseling psychology. We seek applicants whose research explores issues within the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or queer (LGBTQ) population(s) in the U.S. or other parts of the world, and whose research, mentorship, teaching, and service reflects a commitment to equity, belonging, and justice.

Responsibilities

• Engage in strong programmatic research and disseminate cutting-edge science.
• Pursue and obtain grant funding.
• Teach and advise undergraduate and graduate students.
• Provide service to the Program, Department, School, and University.
• Collaborate with colleagues within the department and across NYU Steinhardt to support interdisciplinary scholarship and training.

Salary and Context

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $80,000 – $120,000. This pay range represents base pay only (for 9 months) and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

Qualifications

• A PhD in Psychology or a related discipline is required.
• Priority will be given to those with a doctorate from an APA-approved program in Clinical or Counseling Psychology.
• Demonstrated evidence of strong scholarly productivity, including an active research and publication agenda, and the ability to secure external funding to support the research program.
• Ability to meaningfully contribute to undergraduate and graduate training programs.
