Morgan State University is a public research university and historically black college (HBCU) in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. Morgan is Maryland's designated public urban university and the largest HBCU in Maryland.


Candidate will teach courses as per Morgan contract; generally 4 courses per semester with a possible reduced load in the first two years; conduct research; advise students and serve on committees in the department. In addition, the candidate will have advanced research skills preferably in qualititative methodology, and substantutive research in race, gender, class, collective action and public sociology.


Job Duties



  • Teach four courses per semester.

  • Serve on at least one departmental committee.

  • Submit at least one professional paper for publication annually.

  • Present one paper at a professional conference annually.

  • Serve as advisor for at lease 6 undergraduate students.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other Characteristics


Knowledge of sociological theory and practice. Knowledge of sociological methods, either quantitative or qualitative or both. Teaching experience at the undergraduate level required, graduate level optional. Ability and desire to mentor minority students.


Required Minimum Qualifications



  • PhD in Sociology or Anthropology from an accredited tertiary institution.

  • Professional publications, teaching experience, experience mentoring of underserved populations.


Other Preferences for Consideration


Research interests compatible with the department’s concentrations. Evidence of a defined research agenda.
