Assistant Professor - Applied Crop Science

Position Overview

Assistant Professor “Applied Crop Science” position in the Department of Agricultural Sciences at Texas State University. This full‑time, 9‑month faculty appointment begins in fall 2026.

Responsibilities

• Teaching: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Crop Science/Horticulture; mentor and advise students, supervising M.S. research and serving on thesis committees; develop new courses and contribute to curriculum development.
• Research: Establish and maintain a strong, externally funded research program in production agriculture, addressing abiotic and biotic stress in food crop production; collaborate with faculty, industry, and external partners; disseminate results through peer‑reviewed publications and conferences.
• Service: Participate in service at departmental, college, and university levels, including committee work and student recruitment; engage in professional service within the Crop Science community; chair student‑oriented initiatives as appropriate.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Agronomy, Crop Physiology, Horticultural Science, Plant Breeding, or a closely related field.
• Proven ability as an effective instructor of record at undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Experience mentoring and advising students, including supervising M.S. research and serving on thesis committees.
• Potential to develop a strong, externally funded research program.
• Record of or potential for publication in peer‑reviewed journals.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.

Preferred Qualifications

• A track record of securing research funding.
• Previous research experience in abiotic and biotic stress of crop agriculture.
• Experience in curriculum development or new course development.
• Professional experience in crop science industry or related agricultural sectors (including outreach and international agriculture).
