Position Summary
The Assistant General Manager / Director of Operations works in consultation with the General Manager to manage, supervise, and coordinate day‑to‑day operations of the complex, including maintenance, conversions, custodial, landscaping, equipment safety, and capital projects. The role oversees overall facility management, ensures compliance with state and federal laws, contractual requirements, and company policies, and provides leadership in the absence of the General Manager. The position remains open until September 4, 2026.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $100,000 - $110,000 per year (bonus eligible). Benefits: Health, dental, and vision insurance; 401(k) savings plan with matching; paid time off (vacation, sick days, and 11 holidays).
Responsibilities
- Oversee overall daily operation and maintenance of the facility and all systems (HVAC, sound, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, life safety, workplace safety, communications, scoreboard systems, pest control, custodial services).
- Participate in development and administration of operating and capital budgets, forecast staffing and material needs, monitor expenditures, and adjust as necessary.
- Advance and communicate event information to appropriate departments and staff.
- Oversee event set‑up and tear‑down, including basketball floor, stage risers, chairs, signs, banquet functions, and other setups.
- Act as liaison with City and County Services for facility-related functions (city codes, parking, licenses, permits, inspections, warranties).
- Select, train, motivate, evaluate staff; coordinate training; address deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures.
- Ensure health and safety compliance.
- Develop and update comprehensive management reports and manuals (Operations Manual, Annual Preventative Maintenance Plan, Annual Facility Report, Fire Code Rules & Regulations).
- Continuously improve operations to reduce turnaround times, streamline work processes, and enhance customer service.
- Conduct organizational and operational studies; recommend program, policy, and procedure modifications as appropriate.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, stakeholders, and facility users.
- Direct and monitor contractors, engineers, and architects on building projects.
- Maintain hazardous materials communication program and material safety data sheets; stay current on federal, state, and local regulations.
- Assist the General Manager in planning and managing daily operations of the event center, including sales, marketing, finance, event services, housekeeping, maintenance, safety, and security.
- Oversee contract service partners (food & beverage, telecommunications, A/V, and other subcontractors).
- Act as facility contact with local Convention and Visitor’s Bureau (CVB).
- Participate and lead interdepartmental project groups, special projects, and task forces.
- Represent the General Manager at events and meetings as needed.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external clients.
- Assist with new event creation such as radio station shows, themed festivals, community events, and other revenue‑producing concepts.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or better) in Business Administration/Management, Marketing, Sports Management, Facility Management, Public Administration, or related field.
- 5–7 years of increasing responsibility in professional public assembly facility operations management.
- 3+ years of direct supervisory experience at the director level.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to achieve quality results with limited resources.
- Industry‑recognized designations (e.g., Oglebay) highly desired.
- Experience with modern management methods, long‑range planning, budgeting, and leadership.
- Working knowledge of sales, marketing, event services, safety and security, facility maintenance, housekeeping, finance, human resources, audio‑visual, telecommunications, and food & beverage operations.
- Experience in contract development and negotiations, including facility use license agreements, service agreements, and sponsorship agreements.
- Superior customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work beyond normal business hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Clear and concise communication skills, oral and written.
- Knowledge of EEOC, FLSA, OSHA, ADA, and other employment regulations.
- Excellent organizational skills, detail‑oriented, and capable of handling multiple assignments.
- Ability to function in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficient computer skills: Windows, Outlook, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel.
