Don’t Matter is a listening lounge in DUMBO, Brooklyn, built around music, cocktails, food, culture, and thoughtful hospitality .
Our indoor listening lounge and outdoor deck come together to create an experience that is polished, energetic, intentional, and highly personal.
We are looking for an experienced Assistant General Manager who wants to lead the floor — not manage from the office.
The RoleThis is a floor-first management position .
Four days each week, you will actively run service: leading the FOH team, maintaining service standards, coordinating departments, solving problems in real time, and ensuring the room operates at a high level from open through close.
Your fifth day will focus on reviewing service, identifying opportunities to improve the floor, training and developing the team, interviewing candidates, and preparing recommendations for the week ahead.
You will work closely with our Creative Director, Beverage Director, Director of Operations, and Executive Chef to turn each department's vision into one cohesive guest experience.
Your responsibility is to make sure music, atmosphere, cocktails, food, hospitality, timing, and service execution all work together on the floor.
Four Floor DaysWhen you are scheduled for service, you own the room.
You will:
Lead FOH operations from pre-shift through closing
Maintain a strong, visible management presence throughout service
Lead, coach, and support servers, bartenders, bussers, and service staff
Coordinate communication between the floor, bar, kitchen, management, and creative teams
Work closely with the Creative Director, Beverage Director, Director of Operations, and Executive Chef to continuously improve the guest experience
Ensure food, beverage, music, lighting, atmosphere, timing, and hospitality come together seamlessly
Translate creative and operational direction into consistent execution during service
Conduct focused and effective pre-shift meetings
Monitor service quality and correct issues in real time
Identify bottlenecks before they impact the guest experience
Maintain awareness of every section and department throughout the shift
Step into service wherever needed during high-volume periods
Coach employees in real time and maintain accountability to service standards
Handle guest concerns and service recovery professionally and decisively
Manage VIP and high-profile guest interactions with professionalism and discretion
Maintain proper control of comps, voids, discounts, cash handling, and closing procedures
Ensure side work, cleanliness, organization, and closing standards are completed
Lead the end-of-night manager close
Communicate important service, staffing, facility, and operational issues to department leaders and ownership
This position is not intended to replace the Host or Maître d’. The AGM supports those positions as a manager while remaining focused on the overall operation, execution, and quality of the floor.
One Admin / Development DayOne day each week will be dedicated to stepping back from service and making the operation better.
This day will include:
Reviewing the previous week's services and identifying what worked and what needs improvement
Reviewing guest feedback, service issues, team performance, and operational bottlenecks
Making clear recommendations to improve floor flow, service standards, staffing, communication, timing, and the overall guest experience
Working with the Director of Operations on staffing needs and schedule recommendations
Assisting with schedule preparation, with the final schedule reviewed and finalized by the Director of Operations
Conducting interviews and helping identify strong candidates for FOH positions
Training and onboarding new employees
Providing ongoing coaching and development for existing team members
Identifying training gaps and creating focused refreshers for the team
Reviewing upcoming events, programming, VIPs, and high-volume services
Coordinating with the Creative Director, Beverage Director, Executive Chef, and Director of Operations on upcoming floor needs
Reviewing Toast reporting, comps, voids, discounts, and service trends when relevant
Updating or recommending improvements to SOPs, checklists, and service standards
Following up on operational or facility issues affecting service
Preparing priorities and recommendations for the upcoming week
The goal of the admin day is not paperwork for the sake of paperwork.
It is to study the operation, improve the floor, develop the team, and make the next week of service stronger than the last.
What We NeedWe are not looking for someone who simply wants an AGM title.
We are looking for a serious hospitality operator.
You should have:
3+ years of management experience in a strong restaurant, cocktail bar, lounge, nightlife, or upscale hospitality environment
Proven experience independently running a busy floor
Strong Toast POS experience
Working knowledge of Resy and reservation-driven restaurant operations
Experience managing multiple departments simultaneously
Strong understanding of elevated hospitality and service standards
Strong leadership and staff-development skills
Experience interviewing, training, and developing hospitality teams
Ability to collaborate effectively with culinary, beverage, creative, and operations leadership
Confidence to make decisions and hold the team accountable
Excellent service-recovery instincts
Strong organizational and administrative skills
Experience with labor awareness, cash controls, and manager reporting
Excellent written and verbal communication
Ability to remain calm, decisive, and professional during high-volume service
High attention to detail
Comfort working around celebrities, VIPs, and high-profile guests with complete professionalism and discretion
Open availability for evenings, weekends, holidays, and late nights
We expect you to know what is happening in the room before someone has to tell you.
You see when a server is falling behind.
You recognize when the bar is getting backed up.
You know when communication with the kitchen is breaking down.
You notice when food or drinks are taking too long.
You understand when the energy of the room isn't right.
You recognize when music, lighting, service, food, or beverage execution isn't coming together the way it should.
And you act.
Then, on your admin day, you look back at those moments and ask:
How do we make this better next week?
The right AGM doesn't just manage service. They help improve the system behind the service.
Ownership MentalityWe want someone who treats the operation like it matters.
That means:
Problems don't simply get passed along — you take ownership of solving them
Standards remain consistent whether ownership is present or not
Staff are coached and held accountable
Guest issues are addressed quickly and professionally
Details are followed through until completed
Department leaders stay informed
You identify problems before they become emergencies
You bring solutions and recommendations, not just problems
You actively look for ways to improve the floor every week
If you prefer spending most of your management shift in an office, this is not the position for you.
If you love being on the floor, developing people, coordinating multiple departments, solving problems, and continuously improving an operation, we want to meet you.
