The Office of General Counsel seeks a licensed Illinois attorney to serve as Assistant General Counsel for Labor Employment within the Department of Human Services. Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel, this position provides comprehensive legal advice on labor and employment matters including employee discipline, collective bargaining agreements, accommodations, leaves of absence, wage and hour laws, and litigation. The attorney will represent the department before the Civil Service Commission and administrative tribunals, conduct legal research, and advise leadership across the organization on HR and labor relations issues.

Key qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Valid license to practice law in Illinois
  • Three years of progressively responsible professional experience practicing law as a licensed attorney
  • Three years of experience litigating or advising on labor and employment matters (preferred)
  • Three years of experience advising on reasonable accommodations and leaves of absence (preferred)
  • Three years of experience litigating before courts or administrative tribunals (preferred)
