Assistant Fund Controller
Our client, a real estate investment management firm, is seeking an Assistant Fund Controller to join its growing finance team.
Location
San Francisco, CA. This position follows a hybrid work schedule, with in-office expectations 3 days per week.
Job Description
This role offers broad exposure to fund accounting, investor reporting, financial reporting, treasury activities, and fund operations. The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting professional who enjoys managing complex investment structures, mentoring team members, and partnering with stakeholders across finance, operations, and external service providers.
Responsibilities
- Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes for assigned investment vehicles and related entities.
- Review financial statements, investor reporting packages, capital account activity, and supporting schedules.
- Manage cash forecasting, liquidity planning, capital activity, and treasury-related processes.
- Coordinate with auditors, tax advisors, third-party service providers, and other external stakeholders to support reporting and compliance requirements.
- Oversee accounting for investment vehicles, including reconciliations, journal entries, general ledger maintenance, and financial analysis.
- Support investor communications and respond to financial reporting requests and inquiries.
- Research technical accounting matters and assist with the implementation of accounting policies, procedures, and process improvements.
- Mentor junior team members and collaborate on acquisitions, financings, new investment structures, and other special projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
- 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably within real estate, private equity, investment management, financial services, or a related industry.
- Public accounting experience strongly preferred; CPA preferred.
- Strong understanding of fund accounting, partnership accounting, financial reporting, and investment structures.
- Experience working with audits, tax reporting processes, and external service providers.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical abilities.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
