Key Responsibilities
- Ensure a safe and clean working environment, adhering to unit-based safety and infection control protocols.
- Safely move heavy equipment, bins, and receptacles as needed.
- Collect biohazard waste and trash throughout the facility and dispose of them in designated receptacles.
- Collect and distribute linens efficiently.
- Maintain and clean floors according to organizational standards and scheduled assignments.
- Relocate patient beds, furniture, boxes, desks, supplies, and other equipment as assigned.
- Clean and maintain assigned areas, ensuring compliance with safety standards including the use of wet floor signs.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment and follow proper hand hygiene practices.
- Understand disaster roles and responsibilities related to the position.
- Clean discharge and occupied rooms following departmental training checklists.
- Provide professional and courteous customer service at all times.
- Maintain compliance with hospital requirements such as annual TB skin tests, fit testing, and other mandatory trainings.
- Ability to push and pull a minimum of 750 lbs. and lift at least 75 lbs.
- Knowledge of proper floor care, trash collection, linen distribution, and safe lifting techniques.
- Experience handling cleaning solutions and chemicals safely.
- Completion of on-the-job training including operational procedures for cleaning equipment and tools.
- Minimum of one year of housekeeping or janitorial experience preferred.
- Ability to read and understand written instructions and labels in English.
- Effective communication skills with supervisors, healthcare staff, and environmental services team members.
- For surgical services areas: experience with stripping, waxing, buffing floors according to AORN and healthcare environmental cleaning standards, and familiarity with floor scrubber/buffing equipment.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Valid regional driver's license required for evening shifts within six months of hire or transfer.
