Assistant Director Undergraduate Career Services (Senior Career Counselor)

Join Southern Methodist University (SMU) as the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Career Services, HR Title: Senior Career Counselor. This on‑campus, in‑person position will manage career services for approximately 950 Lyle Engineering undergraduates and collaborate with the Career Development Director to develop key career services offerings.

Essential Functions

  • Career Advising: Provide career advising and exploration to undergraduate students, deliver Job Search Strategies presentations, and create workshops for scholars and organizations.
  • Program Management: Plan and manage annual fall/spring Engineering Connections career fair, Engineering Resumania, Lyle LinkUP, and other programs; host on‑campus events, panels, workshops, seminars, and site visits.
  • Technology: Lead career database management and additional career platforms, including AI‑based technologies; promote events and services through social media, flyers, and materials.
  • Employer Relations: Respond to employer requests, coordinate on‑campus recruitment events, and list openings in the SMU Career Database; build relationships with the SMU Employer Relations Team and Lyle Office of Industrial Partnerships.
  • Data: Assist the Director with annual employment reporting and tracking.
  • Additional Projects: Collaborate on Lyle LinkUp and create a Lyle Career Development Undergraduate Student Ambassadors group.
  • Work requirements: Evening and weekend availability for employer sessions, career development workshops, and networking events; travel to DFW area employers and regional/national conferences.

Education and Experience

A Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree is preferred. A minimum of five (5) years of experience in university career services and/or corporate recruitment management is required; SMU/Lyle Engineering experience is preferred. Executive coaching certification is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong presentation, interpersonal and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate across the University and develop relationships; strong written communication; strong problem‑solving, organizational, planning, and time‑management skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with SPSS and Qualtrics is preferred.
