Position Summary
The Assistant Clinical Director is responsible for supporting the oversight of clinical operations, staff development, quality assurance, and program growth across Sonnenberg Consultants. This role serves as the formal leadership development pathway to the Clinical Director position through successful completion of competency-based leadership training and demonstrated mastery of clinical, operational, and administrative responsibilities.
Promotion to Clinical Director is based on demonstrated competency, organizational performance, and executive approval rather than tenure.
Minimum Qualifications
Required
- Current state licensure, when applicable.
- Minimum three years of ABA clinical experience.
- Minimum one year of supervisory or leadership experience.
- Experience supervising Behavior Technicians and Registered Behavior Technicians.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to pass all required background screenings.
Preferred
- Experience supervising BCBAs and Student Analysts.
- Experience in clinic operations and staff management.
- Knowledge of CentralReach.
- Safety Care certification or willingness to obtain certification.

Clinical Leadership

- Review assessments, behavior intervention plans, and treatment programming.
- Support complex clinical decision-making and consultation.
- Maintain compliance with BACB Ethics Code, payer requirements, and organizational standards.
Operational Leadership
- Assist in overseeing daily clinic operations and resource allocation.
- Manage client placements and service delivery.
- Monitor productivity, authorizations, contracted service hours, and operational performance.
- Assist in budget planning, workflow improvement, and program expansion.
- Collaborate with leadership to develop new clinical services and initiatives.
Leadership & Staff Development
- Supervise, mentor, coach, and evaluate BCBAs, Student Analysts, supervisors, and direct care staff.
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management as needed.
- Identify staff development needs and coordinate ongoing professional training.
- Foster employee engagement, accountability, and a positive organizational culture.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Monitor clinical documentation, chart audits, incident reports, and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, accreditation standards, HIPAA, and applicable federal and state regulations.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and organizational performance reviews.
Family & Community Collaboration
- Provide consultation and mentorship to families.
- Support effective communication with caregivers, schools, and community partners.
- Address parent concerns professionally and facilitate collaborative problem-solving.
- Represent the organization through community outreach and professional partnerships.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Participate in leadership meetings and strategic planning.
- Prepare reports, monitor departmental metrics, and assist with policy implementation.
- Support organizational initiatives and perform additional leadership duties as assigned.
Leadership Development Pathway
The Assistant Clinical Director position serves as the designated succession role for the Clinical Director position.
The Assistant Clinical Director will complete competency-based leadership training in:

- Approval by the COO and Executive Leadership.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to work within clinic, school, home, and community settings.
- Ability to actively engage with clients when necessary.
- Ability to respond appropriately during behavioral crises.
- Ability to safely perform the physical demands of the position, including lifting up to 20 pounds on a regular basis and heavier items with assistance when appropriate; standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and actively engaging in client care and crisis response as needed.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, and use computers for extended periods.
- Ability to travel between Sonnenberg Consultants locations.
