How you make a difference
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) manages and supervises nursing staff and operations to ensure patients receive appropriate healthcare services. Working closely with the Director of Nursing (DON) and the healthcare team, the ADON oversees nursing policies, implements improvement initiatives, and maintains regulatory compliance in a safe environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise nursing staff, including performance reviews, hiring, and disciplinary action
- Evaluate patient care quality and implement improvement initiatives in collaboration with Nurse Managers and DON
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and organization policies
- Participate in policy development and hospital‑wide employee orientations
- Provide professional nursing care as needed to respond to workload demands or staffing shortages
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related field
- Master’s degree preferred
Experience
- Three (3) years in a psychiatric inpatient setting with an additional two (2) years of supervisory experience
- Two (2) years of post‑licensure clinical nursing experience working exclusively with individuals diagnosed with mental illness or multiple disabilities
- Regulatory agency knowledge (The Joint Commission, DHSS, CMS) preferred
Licenses/Certifications
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse within the state of employment
