Assistant Controller

Overview

A growing financial institution is seeking an experienced CPA to join its Finance organization as an Assistant Controller. This is a senior, high-visibility position that will serve as a key partner to the Chief Accounting Officer across financial reporting, technical accounting, internal controls, regulatory reporting, and broader controllership initiatives. Compensation is targeted up to approximately $175,000 base, depending on experience.

This is an opportunity for an ambitious accounting professional to gain broad exposure across a midsized financial institution rather than remain within a narrow accounting function. The Assistant Controller will work closely with senior accounting leadership, collaborate across business functions, and play a meaningful role in upcoming accounting, technology, and systems transformation initiatives.

The ideal candidate combines rigorous Big 4 training with hands-on industry accounting experience, preferably within financial services. The organization is particularly interested in someone who is commercially curious, wants to understand the business end-to-end, and has a clear long-term interest in progressing toward a Controller, CAO, or CFO role.

Responsibilities

• Partner closely with the Chief Accounting Officer across controllership activities and strategic initiatives.
• Take meaningful ownership of key accounting, financial reporting, and controllership processes.
• Support preparation and review of financial statements, management reporting, and regulatory reporting.
• Provide oversight across accounting for key financial products and balance sheet areas.
• Review journal entries, reconciliations, financial analyses, and supporting schedules.
• Strengthen internal controls across accounting and financial reporting processes.
• Support Call Report preparation and other applicable regulatory reporting.
• Research technical accounting matters and assist with accounting policy development.
• Coordinate with external auditors and resolve complex accounting and reporting matters.
• Partner with Operations, Technology, Risk, and other business functions to improve accounting processes.
• Participate in major accounting, technology, and systems transformation initiatives.
• Identify opportunities to automate, streamline, and strengthen accounting and reporting processes.
