Assistant Controller- Manufacturing

Location: Grand Rapids, MI | Hybrid, 2–3 Days In Office

Base Salary: $100,000–$125,000 + 10% Bonus

A growing manufacturing organization in the Grand Rapids area is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join its corporate accounting team. This is a great opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys a mix of hands-on accounting, financial analysis, process improvement, and supporting a growing, multi-location organization.

The Assistant Controller will work closely with the Controller and play an important role in the month-end close, financial reporting, general ledger accounting, and integration of newly acquired businesses. The ideal candidate has a strong accounting foundation and is comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Support month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
• Maintain a strong understanding of the general ledger and ensure accurate financial reporting
• Prepare financial reporting packages, management reports, variance analyses, and ad hoc financial analyses
• Manage fixed asset accounting and support inventory analysis and reconciliations
• Review AP and AR activity for accuracy and completeness
• Support payroll-related accounting activities as needed
• Analyze financial results to identify trends, variances, risks, and opportunities
• Assist with annual audits, tax reporting packages, 1099 filings, and property tax reporting
• Support lease accounting activities under ASC 842
• Assist with the accounting integration of newly acquired businesses
• Participate in ERP implementations, system transitions, and accounting process improvement initiatives

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field
• 6–8+ years of progressive general ledger, financial reporting, or related accounting experience
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Accounting experience within a manufacturing, distribution, or multi-location organization
• Experience supporting acquisitions or integrating newly acquired businesses
• ERP implementation, upgrade, or system conversion experience
• ASC 842 lease accounting experience
• Experience working within a private equity-backed or high-growth organization

Compensation & Schedule

This position offers a $100,000–$125,000 base salary plus a 10% annual bonus. The role follows a hybrid schedule with approximately 2–3 days per week in the Grand Rapids office.
