Assistant Controller

A growing financial services organization in downtown Chicago is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join its Finance & Accounting team.

This is a high-visibility role reporting directly to the Corporate Controller and partnering closely with senior leaders across Finance, FP&A, Risk, and other areas of the business.

The position will play a key role in the firm's accounting and reporting function, with a particular emphasis on sponsor entity accounting / Vertical Risk Retention (VRR). The Assistant Controller will also help lead close and reporting activities, strengthen accounting processes and controls, and support continued growth across a complex, multi-entity organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Help lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
• Oversee accounting for sponsor entities / Vertical Risk Retention (VRR)
• Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
• Partner with FP&A on variance analysis and financial reporting
• Support accounting and transaction reporting for senior leadership
• Identify opportunities to streamline and automate accounting processes
• Strengthen internal controls, accounting procedures, and data integrity
• Partner cross-functionally with FP&A, Risk, Operations, and other business teams
• Support special projects and strategic initiatives as the organization continues to grow

Ideal Background

• 6–10+ years of progressive accounting experience
• 1+ year of management / supervisory experience
• Financial services industry experience required
• Sponsor entity accounting / Vertical Risk Retention (VRR) experience required
• CPA required
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Experience working within a complex, multi-entity environment

Compensation & Highlights

• $160K–$190K base + ~15% bonus (may flex for the right candidate)
