The University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine,Department of Clinical Sciences and Advanced Medicine, Section ofSurgery invites qualified individuals to apply for an open facultyposition in the Academic Clinician (AC) track in Small Animal SoftTissue Surgery at the rank of Assistant or AssociateProfessor.
Faculty members in the Academic Clinician (AC) track are primarilydevoted to clinical service (42 weeks a year) in the Matthew J RyanVeterinary Hospital and participate in the clinical instruction ofveterinary students, interns, and residents. Clinic time will bedivided between soft tissue surgery and surgical oncology, but theamount of service in each area is flexible. Time away from clinicalservice is used for professional development, study for Boardpreparation (if needed), citizenship to the Department, anddidactic teaching. Developing or maintaining an independentscholarship or research is not a focus of the AC track, is not arequirement for reappointment or promotion, and should not detractfrom excellence in clinical service and teaching. Faculty ACpositions are long-term, non-tenured Associated Faculty positionswith reappointment every three years. Promotion along the ladder ofthe University Academic ranks is available. The successfulcandidate is expected to have a history of or potential as anexemplary clinician and educator.
The successful candidate will join Penn Vet's Section of Surgery,which employs eight faculty and seven residents. Penn Vet offers anopportunity to practice in a cutting-edge academic service within abusy urban academic teaching hospital staffed with specialists inall areas, including outstanding anesthesiology and critical careteams and a comprehensive canine and feline blood bank with anactive donor program for optimal and complete peri-operative care.Mentorship and growth in the fields of renal transplantation,microvascular surgery, minimally invasive surgery, advanced upperand lower urinary tract surgery, and interventional radiology isavailable depending on an applicant's interest. Surgeons enjoy thebenefits of the Rosenthal Imaging and Treatment Center, includingmulti-slice CT, MRI, a Varian linear accelerator with IMRTcapability, as well as the recently renovated Richard Lichteremergency room and state-of-the-art Advanced Dentistry and OralSurgery Suite.

Qualifications
Candidates must have a veterinary degree and be board-certified bythe American College of Veterinary Surgeons or successfullycompleted an accredited surgical residency and are preparing forboard-certification. Salary will be commensurate with professionaland academic credentials and experience.
