Assistant/Associate Professor – Pathology

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) School of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track faculty position as Assistant/Associate Professor – Pathology. This position is responsible for the development and delivery of instruction in veterinary pathology within the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) curriculum and contribute to scholarship, service, and program development. Responsibilities include teaching, curriculum development, student mentoring, scholarly activity, and participation in accreditation and institutional initiatives consistent with the mission of UMES and AVMA Council on Education (COE) standards.

Salary range: $125,000 – $155,000 annually, commensurate with academic rank and experience.

Essential Responsibilities include developing and delivering instruction in general and systemic veterinary pathology, incorporating active-learning strategies, developing course materials, participating in curriculum planning, engaging in scholarly activity, mentoring veterinary students, participating in committees and service activities, contributing to AVMA COE accreditation activities, maintaining professional licensure, and performing other assigned duties.

Required Qualifications include a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree, completion of a residency in veterinary pathology, board certification or board-eligible status, eligibility for veterinary licensure in the State of Maryland, and demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and student mentorship.

Preferences include experience teaching in a professional DVM curriculum, experience with digital pathology and instructional technologies, record of peer-reviewed publications or externally funded research, experience supporting AVMA COE accreditation activities, and clinical pathology expertise or diagnostic laboratory experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities include knowledge of contemporary veterinary pathology principles and diagnostic methodologies, ability to effectively teach and mentor professional students, strong written and oral communication skills, ability to work collaboratively in a developing academic program, and commitment to fostering an inclusive and student-centered learning environment.

Physical Demands may require extended periods of standing, bending, stooping, sitting at desk, lifting, communication with various constituents, and operation of office equipment.
