Assistant/Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice (Acute Care, Tenure-Track)

Position Summary

The Department of Pharmacy Practice invites full‑time faculty candidates for Assistant/Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice (Acute Care) within the Feik School of Pharmacy. This 12‑month tenure‑track faculty position provides clinical services to acutely ill patients at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Westover Hills in San Antonio, Texas, working collaboratively with the family medicine faculty and residents of the CHRISTUS Health/ TXAM FM residency program. Official duties and responsibilities include teaching, scholarship, service, and professional activities. Faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission.

Essential Functions

  • Participate in curriculum development and advancement of the program.
  • Prepare and deliver consistent, interactive didactic course lectures aligned with curriculum goals.
  • Teach in the experiential curriculum and provide clinical pharmacy service to acutely ill patients.
  • Work collaboratively with departmental faculty to ensure curriculum outcomes and accreditation standards are met.
  • Prepare and administer timely and meaningful exams, projects, and assessments for assigned courses.
  • Advise and mentor students; provide individual assistance during weekly office hours.
  • Adhere to UIW Faculty Handbook policies, including timely record‑keeping and fair evaluations.
  • Maintain respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students both in and outside the classroom.
  • Conduct scholarly research and publication.
  • Provide service to the department, college, university, community, and profession.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to engage and effectively deliver instruction that facilitates learning.
  • Proficiency in the use of instructional technology.
  • Ability to actively engage students in the learning process.
  • Ability to work with students, patients, multidisciplinary providers, and pharmacy staff to optimize patient care.
  • Ability to work collegially and productively within the university community.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Adherence to all relevant rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

Required Education

Doctor of Pharmacy Degree (Pharm.D.).

Required Work Experience

  • Completion of two (2) years of postgraduate residency training in internal medicine, family medicine, pharmacotherapy, or equivalent experience.
  • Significant experience managing common conditions in the acute care setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a faculty member in a school of pharmacy.
  • Clinical experience in internal medicine or family medicine.
  • Board certification in pharmacotherapy or another applicable specialty.

Required Certifications, Licenses, or Registrations

  • Licensed pharmacist and eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in the state of Texas.
  • Expected to become a certified preceptor with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Faculty selected for this position must obtain and maintain credentialing with the practice site.

Work Hours

Typical Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with occasional extended hours/weekends to meet departmental or learning community needs.

Salary

$108,000 annualized.
