University of the Pacific , in partnership with the national search firm Scott Healy & Associates , invites applications and nominations for the position of non-tenure/tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor of PA Studies . University of the Pacific seeks a collaborative faculty member to join a Physician Assistant Program recognized for its stellar reputation, unique curriculum, and strong commitment to professional growth. This is an in-person role, and the successful candidate must be willing to relocate within California, preferably within 25 miles of the Sacramento Pacific campus.
The Physician Assistant Program faculty at University of the Pacific is responsible for providing all aspects of didactic education for the Program. Faculty members are integral in all activities of the program.
Scholarship and professional service are valued by the program and University of the Pacific. The Physician Assistant Program is committed to strengthening the profession through the "development of, and support for, collaborative research and practice-based/applied research." The intent of this effort is not only to increase the discovery and dissemination of knowledge, but also to focus on faculty and student scholarship and research as part of the University's overall educational mission. Tenure-track faculty must meet minimum requirements for promotion and tenure in alignment with the university's timeline requirements.
Responsibilities:
Advising and mentoring students, course coordination, classroom teaching, participation in course assignments and student assessment, developing student objectives, participating in lab sessions, performing clinical site visits, and assisting with clinical site evaluation.
Establishing an ongoing personal program of scholarly activity.
Participation in department meetings, college and university committees, and state and/or national organizations.
Participation in the ARC-PA continuing accreditation process.
Participation in the admissions process.
Clinical: Opportunities exist for release time to perform clinical work in the PAs area of expertise.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Graduate from an ARC-PA-accredited PA program.
Master's degree in PA studies or other discipline.
Current NCCPA certification, state licensure in California (or eligible for state license).
Minimum of one (1) year of clinical experience as a Physician Assistant.
Minimum of one (1) year of academic or precepting experience in Physician Assistant Education.
Preferred Qualifications:
DMSc, PhD, DHSc, or equivalent preferred.
Five (5) or more years of experience in Physician Assistant Education.
Proficiency in Medical Spanish.
Sincere desire for personal growth and development as an educator, including teaching, scholarship, and service throughout the course of your career.
Desire to teach and learn from students in all phases of the curriculum.
Involvement or desire to be involved in professional organizations within the field of specialty.
Involvement or desire to participate in professional education beyond the school, on local, state, regional, national, and international levels.
Intermediate to advanced computer skills, specifically MS Office Suite Programs (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and MS Outlook.
Ability to work as a team with administrators, fellow faculty, staff, and students.
Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.
About the PA Program:
The PA program , established in 2017, has consistently demonstrated a commitment to generating superior PAs poised with the clinical and technical skills to practice in a variety of specialties and become leaders in their communities and the profession. With a 98% first time PANCE pass rate and a 99% ultimate pass rate, the program is dedicated to ensuring students are prepared to enter clinical practice. In 2023, the University heavily invested in the PA program by purchasing and renovating a two-story building (the Center for PA Education) to house the expanding PA program. The Program has a strong interprofessional education curriculum including activities with Pacific's Schools of Pharmacy, Dentistry and Health Sciences.
