Asphalt R&D Technician (B1)

As an Asphalt R&D Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting our innovation pipeline by executing essential testing protocols and ensuring our laboratory operations run with precision and reliability.
Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions Handles routine tasks under close supervision on a day-to-day basis. Uses instruments and test equipment to make quantitative and qualitative analysis. Works in production environments to support R&D activities as needed. Works under the direction of a Scientist/Engineer to establish laboratory and technical protocols. Ensures work is completed accurately, reliably, and on time.
Job Accountabilities and Responsibilities: Performs routine specific activities in accordance with established laboratory practices and procedures. Conducts standardized routine tests and analyses, including accurate product quality, mechanical, and environmental tests. Prepares samples, usually by cutting, trimming, and utilizing other standard methods. Assists in the operation of lab pilot equipment to carry out simple and repetitive work. Performs data entry of work and results that can be used by others to determine progress. Book time on equipment, maintains equipment logs, and handles calibrations as needed. Assembles and dismantles experimental equipment following established JSA and SOP protocols. Maintains a safe, clean, and orderly work area on a daily basis. Follows all safety rules, reads and understands SOP and JSA documents, and notifies the supervisor of any potential hazards.
Communication & Time Management: Communicates regularly with the supervisor regarding work status and potential delays. Receives and responds to assignments both verbally and via email. Organizes and reports data in a clear, concise manner using lab notebooks and spreadsheets for supervisor analysis. Manages time effectively to optimize productivity and meet deadlines.
Required Skills & Competencies Knowledge of the care, use, and basic maintenance of laboratory equipment and tools. Knowledge of safety precautions, health hazards, and MSDS forms. Strong keyboarding and computer data entry skills. Ability to strictly follow oral and written instructions. Demonstrates good laboratory practice when working with chemicals, material samples, and test equipment.
Education & Experience High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience (such as a co-op, internship, or job), OR 1–3 years of related experience. Demonstrated experience as a temporary technician is valued. An Associate Degree in Engineering, Applied Science, or Physical Science is preferred.
