ASD Behavior Specialist
The ASD Behavior Specialist supports the Nebraska Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Network Technical Assistance Project, funded by the Nebraska Department of Education, Office of Special Education, serving the Southeast Region. The ASD Behavior Specialist provides professional learning, coaching, and consultation to school districts to improve outcomes for students on the autism spectrum who have complex behavioral support needs. School consultation services focus on building the capacity of school teams to effectively support students with autism and other disabilities who have complex behavioral needs rather than providing direct student services. The ASD Behavior Specialist partners with educators to identify and implement appropriate functional behavior assessment (FBA) tools and procedures; collaborates with teams to design, implement, and evaluate evidence-based instructional and behavioral supports; and assists teams in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to guide problem-solving, monitor student progress, and inform ongoing decision-making. The ASD Behavior Specialist works collaboratively with educators, families, and community partners to strengthen local capacity, build staff confidence and expertise, and support the sustainable implementation of effective practices that improve outcomes for students across school settings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Provides leadership, consultation, and technical assistance to school districts in the implementation of evidence-based practices for students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and complex behavioral support needs.
- Delivers professional development, coaching, and follow-up support to educators and school teams to promote the effective implementation and sustainability of behavioral and instructional interventions.
- Collaborates with ASD Network State and Regional Coordinators to identify referral priorities, plan professional learning opportunities, and support statewide OSE and ASD Network initiatives.
- Assists school teams in conducting functional behavior assessments (FBAs), collecting and analyzing behavioral data, and developing, implementing, and monitoring individualized behavior intervention plans.
- Facilitates collaborative problem-solving and planning meetings with school personnel, families, and community providers to ensure coordinated, student-centered supports.
- Recommends and models evidence-based practices and behavioral interventions that promote meaningful participation, learning, communication, and positive behavioral outcomes for students with ASD.
- Maintains accurate documentation, protects confidentiality, demonstrates professional and ethical conduct, and engages in ongoing professional learning to remain current with research and best practices.

Education and/or Experience: Master's degree in Special Education or related field is required Three years or more of professional and/or public school work with students with ASD or behavior disorders preferred
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid driver's license Valid Nebraska teaching certificate Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification is highly preferred (BCBA can be in progress)
