The AS400 Developer will be responsible for developing, enhancing, and supporting applications on the iSeries/AS400 platform within the retail domain.
This role involves analyzing requirements, creating technical specifications, performing development activities, and providing second-level production support.
The position requires strong RPG, SQLRPGLE, CL programming skills and the ability to collaborate with product owners, business teams, and QA to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and develop iSeries/AS400 code supporting various retail applications.
- Create functional specifications following established standards, processes, and procedures.
- Conduct code reviews, perform unit testing, and coordinate development and QA activities.
- Adhere to client development standards and deployment processes.
- Collaborate with product owners, business teams, and QA to clarify and document requirements.
- Participate in development estimation, deployment activities, and release planning.
- Provide second-level support for incident tickets and create knowledge base articles for first-level teams.
- Perform peer reviews to ensure code quality, reusability, scalability, and adherence to best practices.
- Participate in technical discussions focused on user experience, design, architecture, and development.
Required Qualifications
- Strong programming skills on the iSeries platform using RPG, RPG ILE, SQLRPGLE, and CLP/CLLE.
- Solid understanding of SQL concepts, including writing and modifying complex SQL queries, embedded SQL, cursor programming, and stored procedures.
- Experience with physical files, logical files, SQL tables, indexes, and views.
- Proficiency in screen programming, including display files, subfiles, and printer files.
- Ability to document business rules and create data-mapping documents based on program and data flows.
- Experience with ILE programming, including modules, binding directories frc, and service programs.
- Working knowledge of Message Queue (MQ), MQ triggers, and embedding XML in RPG programs.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to independently manage project tasks and collaborate with analysts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Turnover for code configuration management.
- Experience using X-Analysis for cross-referencing.
- Knowledge of triggers and message queuing for inter-program or inter-system
- Experience with ROBOT job scheduler for batch job scheduling.
- Knowledge of normalized and denormalized tables and star schema design.
- Experience with iSeries Navigator for running and analyzing SQL performance.
- Retail domain experience in areas such as avancer, warehouse management, or distributionιλ
