Overview
Area Operations Manager provides overall direction and guidance to the operational activities of the regional organization with the objective of managing and controlling costs, maximizing growth and profitability in a sustainable manner. The role delivers day‑to‑day situational leadership to team members using Carmeuse guiding principles & values.
Responsibilities
- Manages regional operations by directing and coordinating activities consistent with established values, goals, objectives, and policies.
- Drives a team culture that enhances the experience and empowers support functions to achieve region‑wide goals.
- Executes and contributes to a long‑range vision for the region by implementing agreed programs to ensure attainment of the business plan for growth and profit with emphasis on long‑term principles, sustainability, and a creative work environment.
- Develops and creates initiatives aligned with organizational goals.
- Provides direction and structure for operating units through celebrating successes, rewarding positive behavior, motivation, and accountability.
- Drives a systematic approach in all facets of operations with a focus on continuous improvement to generate higher ROI and workflow optimization.
- Provides mentoring, growth opportunities, and guidance to subordinates and other employees with emphasis on succession planning and personal career growth throughout all levels of the organization.
- Collaborates across regions to spread best practices and experiences through continuous improvement and knowledge management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, MBA or master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 10 years progressive experience in mining or heavy engineering industry.
- Minimum of 10 years managerial experience with increasing responsibility.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a $50MM+ business unit.
- Proven record in leading operational excellence through application of behavior‑based management.
- Prior experience demonstrating effective management skills and knowledge of the continuous manufacturing sector.
- Demonstrable teamwork and maturity with a strong work ethic.
- Fluency in spoken and written English.
- Ability to travel.
Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge:
- Operational management.
- People management skills.
- Strong knowledge of Carmeuse policies, processes, and procedures.
- Experience in mining and/or heavy engineering industry.
- Knowledge of continuous manufacturing business sector.
- Technical credibility related to industry, preference for mining and kilns.
