Area Operations Manager

Overview

Area Operations Manager provides overall direction and guidance to the operational activities of the regional organization with the objective of managing and controlling costs, maximizing growth and profitability in a sustainable manner. The role delivers day‑to‑day situational leadership to team members using Carmeuse guiding principles & values.

Responsibilities

• Manages regional operations by directing and coordinating activities consistent with established values, goals, objectives, and policies.
• Drives a team culture that enhances the experience and empowers support functions to achieve region‑wide goals.
• Executes and contributes to a long‑range vision for the region by implementing agreed programs to ensure attainment of the business plan for growth and profit with emphasis on long‑term principles, sustainability, and a creative work environment.
• Develops and creates initiatives aligned with organizational goals.
• Provides direction and structure for operating units through celebrating successes, rewarding positive behavior, motivation, and accountability.
• Drives a systematic approach in all facets of operations with a focus on continuous improvement to generate higher ROI and workflow optimization.
• Provides mentoring, growth opportunities, and guidance to subordinates and other employees with emphasis on succession planning and personal career growth throughout all levels of the organization.
• Collaborates across regions to spread best practices and experiences through continuous improvement and knowledge management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree, MBA or master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 10 years progressive experience in mining or heavy engineering industry.
• Minimum of 10 years managerial experience with increasing responsibility.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a $50MM+ business unit.
• Proven record in leading operational excellence through application of behavior‑based management.
• Prior experience demonstrating effective management skills and knowledge of the continuous manufacturing sector.
• Demonstrable teamwork and maturity with a strong work ethic.
• Fluency in spoken and written English.
• Ability to travel.

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge:

• Operational management.
• People management skills.
• Strong knowledge of Carmeuse policies, processes, and procedures.
• Experience in mining and/or heavy engineering industry.
• Knowledge of continuous manufacturing business sector.
• Technical credibility related to industry, preference for mining and kilns.
