Line WorkerThe purpose of this classification is to operate light equipment and perform manual work functions associated with construction, repair and maintenance of electrical power, distribution systems, substations, generators, telecommunications systems, lines and related equipment. This is the progressive working/training position to becoming a qualified Line Worker. Under direct supervision, operates a variety of equipment, machinery and tools used in construction, maintenance and repair of power distribution systems.

Performs routine general maintenance tasks necessary to maintain machinery, equipment and tools in operable condition. Under direct supervision, performs manual work functions associated with maintaining right-of-ways, ditches and holding ponds. Under direct supervision, assists in installing, maintaining and repairing underground and overhead structures including high mast lighting and street light systems, poles, cables and related equipment to carry power transmission/distribution lines used to conduct electrical energy between generating stations, substations and consumers.

Will be required to work after normal business hours, weekends and holidays in the event of a natural disaster, power outages, down power lines, trees, etc. or any disruption of service to Albany Utility customers. This is a progressive position that requires continuance training and work functions and responsibilities increase as the level of training and qualifications increase.

Must remain on a progressive path outlined to become a fully qualified lineman which will require self-motivation and discipline to accomplish tasks off the job and without direct supervision. Will be required to complete CPR, GDOT Flagging, Pole Top & Bucket Truck Rescue training and certifications.
