Applied AI Engineer

Scion Technology has been engaged to conduct a search for an experienced Applied AI Engineer for our client, a profitable, customer-revenue-funded career-tech company! This is a full-time, direct hire position offering a 100% remote schedule.

POSITION OVERVIEW

This role is ideal for a product-oriented software engineer with experience building and launching AI-enabled applications. The Senior Software Engineer will help shape new product capabilities, integrate AI into customer-facing experiences, and develop scalable data workflows and software integrations. Working closely with product, design, and subject-matter experts, this individual will have significant ownership over technical decisions, product execution, and engineering best practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design, build, and launch new software features, balancing speed of execution with long-term product quality.
• Incorporate AI and large language model capabilities into scalable, user-focused applications.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to translate business workflows and specialized knowledge into effective AI-assisted experiences.
• Develop and maintain data pipelines, integrations, and reusable services connecting third-party platforms.
• Evaluate architectural approaches and make informed decisions regarding scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering efficiency while maintaining code quality and reliability.
• Contribute to code reviews, technical discussions, and knowledge-sharing initiatives that strengthen team capabilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including delivering production applications used by real customers.
• Experience developing full-stack or server-side web applications in modern software environments.
• Demonstrated experience integrating AI or large language models into practical software products.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, data processing, search and indexing concepts, and system integrations.
• Proficiency with AI-powered coding tools, including the ability to validate generated code, identify errors, and incorporate these tools into an effective development workflow.
• Ability to articulate technical decisions, evaluate trade-offs, and explain how existing solutions could be improved.
• Familiarity with dynamic programming languages, modern web frameworks, and event-driven architectures.
• Experience working in a startup, entrepreneurial, or similarly high-ownership environment with evolving priorities.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with an interest in mentoring peers and improving engineering practices.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

This full-time position offers an annual base salary up to $210k, commensurate with experience, in addition to equity.
