What We're Looking For

As a Senior applications engineer you will contribute to the architecting, evaluation, improvement, and support of system solutions in the retail point of sale market. Ensuring that our Advanced Data Capture products work seamlessly with our customers’ point of sale systems. Provide training to our partners and customers and assist in the system integration of advanced data capture products to provide validated and tested solutions. This position will work very closely with the product management and engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as experienced technical resource and initial escalation point for internal and external stakeholder teams.
  • Address key challenges related to the performance of our organization’s products and solutions in specific application scenarios.
  • Evaluate product performance and usability challenges in order to identify the core issue and eliminate the problem.
  • Collaborate with sales, engineering, and product management teams to communicate resolution and ensure fixes are validated and become available in a future release.
  • Provide analysis and input on how products/solutions can best meet or exceed customer/partner business requirements, and how they perform compared to competitive options.
  • Assist in the planning and analysis of strategic customer projects to ensure that they are effectively executed.
  • Ensure appropriate Zebra products/features are incorporated in order to maximize customer benefit and business value.
  • Help manage and maintain company vision labs, and remote testing infrastructure, to respond to product/solution challenges and opportunities rapidly and effectively.
  • Represent the product management organization as a technical customer/partner contact; often assist with application deployments with the guidance of more senior colleagues.
  • Engage with product management colleagues to communicate market needs and influence aspects of the product portfolio and roadmap.
  • Contribute to the development of technical training.
  • Develop and document solution deployment processes as needed and communicate to stakeholders.
  • Design/architect system demonstrations to ensure products/solutions are represented professionally at internal and external events.
  • For high priority opportunities, assist sales team/partners with deployment and/or testing on site at customer location.
  • Provide moderate Tier 3 technical support for partners/customers, escalating more complex challenges to senior colleagues.

Location

Role is required to be onsite in Holtsville, NY office (Hybrid – minimum of 3 days in the office per week).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience.
  • Experience working with advanced data capture and retail point of sale solutions.
  • Knowledge of basic electrical engineering concepts such as schematics, wiring, hand tools.
  • Knowledge of basic imaging concepts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree.
  • Knowledge of retail point of sale processes and environments.
  • Experience with coding languages such as Windows, Linux, Python.
  • Travel will be 30% or more.
  • Cross‑functional collaboration experience.
  • Strategic mindset with awareness of the competitive landscape in mobile AI and ability to translate that into forward‑looking technical strategy.
  • Hands‑on electrical engineering experience (schematics, wiring, hand tools).
  • Hands‑on experience with machine vision, computer vision, or image processing (setting up cameras, lensing, lighting, filters, focal lengths).
  • Knowledge of manufacturing and/or logistics processes and environments.
  • Experience with Windows OS (Win7/Win10) and Linux OS plus common Linux toolsets and scripting languages.
  • General understanding of mechanical, electrical, and industrial automation systems.
  • Certified Vision Professional – Basic a plus.

Compensation

Pay range: $108,960.00 - $163,440.00 annually.
