Application Engineer - Variable Speed DrivesOffice Location: Roanoke, VABusiness Function/Department: Industrial Systems/Project Application and Hardware EngineeringGeneral Role Description: Define project system requirements and develop system specifications for Variable Speed Drive application to Industrial Systems projects.Role Accountabilities:Develop detailed system specifications through collaboration with mechanical original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and end-user clients, per the contract and global industry standards, to ensure high quality designs and on-time delivery for the following:Low and/or medium voltage variable frequency drives for new and/or retrofit projectsIncoming panels, harmonics filter panels and output reactor panelsTroubleshoot low and medium voltage, AC and DC variable frequency drive application issues, at client site as assignedCreate electrical circuit drawings to ensure a design that meets project requirements and quality standardsProvide timely technical guidance to internal and external clients and suppliers as required to ensure total project requirements are metDevelop and maintain processes and procedures to support the configuration and tuning of VFDsEnsure "as shipped" systems meet all client requirements as defined in the project contract, including system specifications and performance guarantees, while achieving business goals and objectivesPerform development related tasks for drive features or applications for new and existing VFD's, as assignedEvaluate supplier proposals to determine the best technical and most cost-effective solution for the applicationManage equipment costs, recommending cost reductions when feasiblePrepare purchase specification and ERP requisition in a timely manner to support the project scheduleConduct detailed design reviews, internally and externally, with suppliers and clientsProvide technical and costing information for the preparation of technical proposals, using client specifications and knowledge of Company solutionsProvide technical consultation to assist clients in specifying solutions to technology challenges that results in projects for the CompanyProvide project management services as assignedGeneral Employee Accountabilities:Bring full effort to bear on tasks assigned by managerGive manager best adviceGive earliest notice when work cannot be delivered as specifiedCooperate and collaborate with peers and interact cross-organizationally as specified by managerExemplify Company Core Values: Integrity, Client Focus, Team Orientation, and Personal CommitmentComply with all Company policies, practices, and procedures and all regulations and lawsRecommend viable improvements proactivelyEnsure effective utilization of business tools and processesMinimum Qualifications:Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering or related field or equivalent via education and/or work experience2 years' related work experience in specifying, designing, commissioning, and/or maintaining low and/or medium voltage, variable frequency drivesDemonstrated successful working relationships with clients, suppliers, and other internal and external contactsDemonstrated successful and positive personal leadership, interpersonal, organizational, administrative, and communication skillsDemonstrated continuous improvement in areas of responsibilityProficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and VisioAble to climb and work on cranes at heights up to approximately 175 feet, occasionallyAvailability to travel, domestically and internationally, approximately 15%, occasionally with limited noticePreferred Qualifications:5 years' related work experience in specifying, designing, commissioning, and/or maintaining low and/or medium voltage, variable frequency drivesDemonstrated knowledge of VFD application to complex coordinated control systemsDemonstrated knowledge of DC to DC or DC to AC VFD retrofit projectsDemonstrated project engineering and/or project management knowledge, skills, and experienceDemonstrated successful working relationships mechanical OEM's and end-user clientsKnowledge of electrical CAD software such as AutoCAD, EPLAN etc.Hiring Range: $110,700-$166,100
