To support ongoing development of an internal Retool platform, the contracted Application Engineer will manage application architecture, permissions, and integrations while working remotely for 30-40 hours per week from September 2026 to February 2027. Key responsibilities Own the application layer across internal and client-facing tooling, ensuring architecture and permissions are properly structured Build and extend Retool applications, focusing on queries, components, and backend logic Continuously assess and improve application architecture for efficiency and scalability, partnering with data teams for alignment with data models Required qualifications 4+ years of experience building or maintaining internal business applications or integrated tooling environments Substantial hands-on experience with Retool, including building and shipping non-trivial applications Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and comfort with relational databases Experience with permissions architecture across multi-system environments and integrating third-party platforms via APIs Demonstrated ability to inherit and extend existing codebases effectively
