About the Role

We are seeking an AP / AR & Collections Specialist to join a growing construction and restoration business in Morris County.

The role will focus heavily on accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, cash application, and collections. We are looking for someone with recent experience in construction, restoration, contracting, or a similar project-based environment who is comfortable managing day-to-day accounting transactions and following outstanding balances through to payment.

Property insurance or claims experience is helpful, but it is not required for the right candidate.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day accounts payable and accounts receivable
• Enter, code, and process vendor invoices
• Prepare and issue customer invoices
• Apply customer payments and maintain accurate AR records
• Monitor AR aging and follow up on outstanding balances
• Handle customer collections by phone and email
• Research and resolve invoice, payment, and account discrepancies
• Maintain accurate vendor and customer records
• Reconcile AP and AR activity
• Assist with payment processing and vendor inquiries
• Support construction-related billing documentation
• Assist with lien waivers and the lien process
• Support AIA or progress billing where applicable
• Maintain accurate accounting records in QuickBooks
• Work closely with project teams, customers, vendors, and management on billing and payment issues

Qualifications

• Previous experience in AP, AR, billing, collections, or bookkeeping
• Recent construction, restoration, contracting, or project-based industry experience strongly preferred
• Strong hands-on experience with collections and AR follow-up
• Experience processing vendor invoices and managing AP
• QuickBooks experience preferred
• Familiarity with construction accounting processes
• Experience with AIA billing, lien waivers, or lien processes is a strong plus
• Strong attention to detail and organization
• Comfortable speaking directly with customers regarding outstanding balances
• Ability to manage a high volume of invoices and payment activity

Candidates with a strong AP/AR and construction accounting background can be trained on the insurance-specific elements of the role.

Compensation

The expected salary range is approximately $55,000–$70,000, depending on experience.

Candidates toward the upper end of the range should be able to independently manage AP, AR, billing, and collections with minimal supervision.
