Position Overview

Faculty position in the College of Nursing (CoN) that combines teaching and service responsibilities. The role is vital for shaping the professional and personal development of graduates.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teaching (92%) – create dynamic, learner‑centered environments; use diverse teaching methods; model reflective critical thinking; coach and mentor students; prepare and review assessments; supervise clinical rotations; document student progress; collaborate with colleagues; other teaching assignments may be assigned at any SMU campus.
  • Service (8%) – participate in faculty, college, and university committees; provide service to the profession and community; attend university and CoN events; clarify curriculum and programmatic requirements for students; increase student awareness of educational resources; discuss academic progress; refer students to support services; forward relevant student information influencing policy.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

  • Earned master’s in nursing required; doctorate in nursing or related field preferred.
  • Teaching experience at baccalaureate or higher degree level.
  • Unencumbered California registered nurse license or eligibility for licensure in California.
  • Experience working with leadership in healthcare and academic institutions and community organizations preferred.
  • Must be qualified to teach relevant coursework in accordance with California BRN requirements.

Employment Details

Regular, 12‑month annual faculty appointment: 1,722 instructional hours and 150 service hours (total 1,872 hours). Exempt, full‑time employee. Salary range: $81,000 – $108,000.
