Job Summary
Masters prepared specialty anesthesiologist assistant working under the direction of a licensed anesthesiologist. Administers anesthesia protocols to patients and follows-up on after care. The supervising anesthesiologist shall, at all times, be responsible for the activities of the anesthesiologist assistant. Limited to select locations based on unique workplace dynamics.
Essential Functions of the Role
- Administers anesthesia under the medical direction of an anesthesiologist, including the prescribed anesthetic with particular care to the cardiovascular, respiratory, and metabolic health of the patient.
- Consults with supervising anesthesiologist for the induction of anesthesia, extubation of the trachea, unexpected or adverse perioperative events, or whenever the prescribed anesthetic deviates significantly from its expected course.
- Establishes a comprehensive patient database through chart/medical record review, patient examination, and interview to assist in anesthetic planning; orders appropriate pre‑op evaluations and pre‑medications after consultation with the anesthesiologist.
- Initiates multi‑parameter monitoring prior to anesthesia or in other acute care settings, including ASA standard monitors, arterial and venous catheters, and accurately manipulates and interprets data from central venous, pulmonary artery, intracranial catheters, and other indicated devices.
- Assists in the post‑operative management of patients, managing post‑op ventilator support and acute pain management in conjunction with existing protocols or the attending anesthesiologist.
Qualifications
- Education: Masters degree.
- Experience: Less than 1 year of experience.
- Certification/License/Registration: Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant (AA‑C).
