Position Objective

The Anesthesia Technologist will report to the Anesthesia Team Coordinator and Team Lead under the supervision of the unit Clinical Director. The Anesthesia Technologist will independently maintain and organize the anesthesia workspace, equipment, and supplies, and assist the anesthesia provider in multiple hospital locations in preparation and performance of anesthesia functions.

Essential Job Duties

  • Prepare anesthesia machines for use by performing daily quality checks and ensuring optimal machine function.
  • Demonstrate detailed technical knowledge of anesthesia equipment systems for troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Set up anesthesia machine and maintain all anesthesia equipment, instruments and supplies before, during and after the procedure, according to par levels.
  • Prepare for induction of anesthesia by placing non-invasive monitors (BP cuff, ECG leads, and pulse oximeter) at the provider's request and provide support during induction and emergence.
  • Assist in sterile and aseptic preparation for placement of invasive lines or devices, under supervision; clean and dispose used items in appropriate receptacle or prepare for processing following OR procedures.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of aseptic technique during invasive procedures.
  • Anticipate needs for invasive monitoring by having appropriate equipment in the operating room prior to procedure or on provider's request.
  • Differentiates and anticipates supplies and equipment needed during emergent situations and for specific patient populations (peds, geriatric, etc.) including difficult airway, cardiac arrest, fire, malignant hyperthermia, blood administration.
  • Maintain knowledge of and follow patient and personal safety procedures policies and national standards related to infection control, fire safety, electrical or chemical hazards.
  • Work to ensure delivery of safe patient care within scope of practice and participate in a positive and professional work environment.

Education / Experience Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of accredited Anesthesia Technician Program.
  • 2 years experience as Anesthesia Technologist.

Preferred Experience

  • Cardiac OR experience highly preferred.

Required Licenses / Certifications

  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS.
  • ACLS required within 6 months of hire.
  • Certification by the American Association of Anesthesia Technicians and Technologists (ASATT).

Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands

Employees in this position are expected to be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.

Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.

Compensation

Pay Range: $30—$50 USD.
