Anatomic Pathologist

Position Description
The Department of Pathology, San Francisco Veterans Affairs Health Care System (SFVAHCS) and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) are seeking outstanding candidates for a full‑time position at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Health‑Care System. Responsibilities include clinical service, research, and teaching primarily in surgical pathology, cytopathology, and autopsy service. The appointment will be at UCSF at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in the HS Clinical or Clinical X series.
Qualifications: MD (or equivalent) degree, licensed to practice in California (or another state), Board Certified (or eligible at hire) in Anatomic Pathology. Successful completion of fellowship training in Surgical Pathology or Cytopathology (or one or more years of independent sign‑out experience) and additional Pathology subspecialty training (Gastrointestinal/Hepatobiliary preferred; other specialties considered). Preference for experience in Digital Pathology, Molecular Pathology, or Laboratory Informatics. Demonstrated research publications, teaching experience, and excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Applicants must list current and/or pending qualifications.
Clinical Duties: Sign‑out responsibilities in cytopathology, surgical pathology, autopsy, frozen sections, inpatient and outpatient fine‑needle aspiration biopsy performance, rapid on‑site adequacy assessments, night and weekend call, and presentation at tumor boards, interdepartmental conferences, and committees as assigned. Participation in trainee teaching, research, and quality improvement activities, including development, review, and revision of SOPs and compliance with accreditation standards, is expected. Championing or leading LIS system modernization (and Digital Pathology) as opportunities arise is also expected.
Compensation
For positions that are 51% effort or more: The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. The minimum base salary range is $121,900 – $405,900. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan, which provides eligibility for additional compensation.
For positions that are 50% effort or less: The salary range is $93,700 – $246,000.
Veterans Affairs salary range: $225,000 – $400,000. The San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center may offer a recruitment/relocation incentive up to $30,000 for eligible applicants.
