The Analyst, Energy Markets supports the Energy Markets team by performing market research, data analysis, and modeling to inform price forecasts, asset evaluations, and commercial decisions. This role focuses on developing technical capability, learning power market fundamentals, and contributing to team deliverables under the guidance of senior analysts.
You Will Contribute to Our Team By:
- Supporting the development and maintenance of long‑term power market price forecasts and assumptions.
- Collecting, organizing, and analyzing market data related to supply, demand, fuel prices, emissions, cost of new generation, and policy developments.
- Assisting with asset dispatch modeling, gross margin calculations, and financial proformas.
- Preparing charts, reports, and presentation materials explaining market trends and forecast results.
- Supporting the design and implementation of market dashboards for consumption across the company.
- Supporting business development and commercial initiatives through scenario analysis and sensitivity testing.
- Tracking market, policy, and regulatory developments and summarizing key implications for internal stakeholders.
- Collaborating with senior analysts, Trading, Commercial, and other internal teams on cross-functional projects.
What You Will Bring to the Role:
Education and Experience
- Degree in Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- 2 - 3 yrs of experience in energy markets, analytics, consulting, or a related analytical role.
- Strong interest in power markets, energy economics, and quantitative analysis.
Technical & Professional Skills
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Excel, Python, and data analysis tools; exposure to energy market models (particularly natural gas and or power) is an asset.
- Full comfort with manipulating, processing, and performing complex calculations on large datasets which are not suited to conventional spreadsheet software (e.g., pricing and operational data at hourly granularity) while also putting in place appropriate controls for quality and consistency.
- Ability to clearly communicate analytical results in written and visual formats.
- Willingness to learn, accept feedback, and build subject‑matter expertise over time.
The pay range for this position is $100,000 - $125,000
The specific rate will depend on the successful candidate’s qualifications and prior relevant experience.
