Rehabilitation Therapy - Speech Therapist

Astrya Global, a San Diego based medical staffing agency, is hiring a SLP for a permanent assignment in Juneau, Alaska.

Responsibilities for a SLP:

• Provide Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) evaluations and treatments in the Rehabilitation Services Department with a focus on impacting patients' functional abilities • Perform assessments, evaluations, identify therapy diagnoses, formulate therapy treatment plans with goals, and implement SLP treatments for patients across a wide range of ages and diagnoses • Serve as the primary therapy provider to implement, supervise, and modify therapy plans of care based on patient response to optimize outcomes • Review clinical records and case histories to inform treatment planning • Attend care conferences, regular meetings/rounds, and maintain contact with referring providers, nurses, and other rehabilitation professionals to review patient status and individual needs • Collaborate with team members to ensure appropriate medical equipment is arranged and care plans are established prior to patient discharge • Document patient encounter findings and treatments including diagnoses, treatment plans, recommendations, and prognoses in accordance with hospital and/or Home Health policies • Provide services in a timely manner after receipt of referral in both in-patient and out-patient settings • Direct the work of support staff, students, or interns as needed • Develop, implement, and conduct patient education and therapy programs based on patient and/or family needs • Provide patients and families with home exercise programs to achieve the fullest rehabilitative potential • Advise patients and family members in methods that facilitate self-care and independence, demonstrating sensitivity to cross-cultural issues • Perform therapy services in community settings including community clinics, senior centers, home assessments, and other collaborative efforts • Conduct home assessments to evaluate patients' living arrangements, use of Durable Medical Equipment, and implementation of therapy plans in the home environment • Participate in video conferencing for training, patient encounters, and administrative duties with off-site locations • Travel occasionally to remote locations by boat or small plane, which may involve multi-day trips in inclement or harsh weather • Assist senior staff in administrative matters, clinic operations, and specialty/research areas as appropriate • Utilize hospital computer systems to obtain patient information, keep abreast of hospital directives, and participate in the timely and efficient flow of information • Provide summaries of results, statistics, and metrics as required by management • Assist with the acquisition and fitting of durable medical equipment/devices based on patient needs • Maintain supply stocks and clinical areas at acceptable levels • Remain current in specific billing procedures and mechanisms (Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party payers) to aid in reimbursement of services and equipment • Maintain cleanliness of clinical space • Educate staff on SLP issues and educate patients/families with therapeutic exercises, activities, and equipment • Assist in committee and management duties within and representing the Rehabilitation Services Department as requested • Provide therapy consultation, presentations, and in-service training to medical staff, consultants, and other interdisciplinary healthcare personnel • Participate in continuing education as a learner or teacher to keep current with therapy procedures and techniques • Adhere to the regulatory and practice standards of Speech-Language Pathology as set by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association • Follow all confidentiality and quality assurance standards • Maintain current BLS certification • Obtain and maintain CCC-SLP certification within the first year of employment • Maintain valid State of Alaska licensure in the field of Speech-Language Pathology • Maintain a current and valid Alaska Driver's License • Complete Clinical Competency assessment within 3 months of hire and every three years thereafter • Complete High Risk Competency assessment within 3 months of hire and annually thereafter • Perform other duties or activities as assigned
