Job Description:
The Surgical Technologist - Non Certified assists surgical team members during operative procedures. Arranges and inventories sterile set-ups for surgery, and passes items as needed to the operating team while assisting in preparing and moving patients, and in cleaning the operating room. This is considered an entry-level position. Essential responsibilities will include the following, and other duties may be assigned.
Responsibilities:
- Prepares surgical suite, supplies, and equipment to meet environmental safety and infection control standards for all personnel and patients.
- Ensures the integrity of sterile packaging by opening supplies aseptically while controlling environmental factors that could expose equipment.
- Regularly checks equipment and supplies for proper working order and ensures they are ready for each surgical procedure.
- Demonstrates techniques of disinfection and sterilization by adhering to center policies and procedures, ensuring a sterile field is maintained.
- Performs responsibilities as a surgical scrub for preoperative care for patients by ensuring that care is individualized, meeting the needs of each patient and surgeon.
- Adheres to established company and ASC safety requirements and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Successfully demonstrates competent usage of proper body mechanics in all activities.
- Participates as a member of the team to promote a positive working environment and provide back-up support when necessary.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Graduate of an approved course for OR Surgical Technologists required.
- Minimum of one year related experience or training in a clinical setting and surgical scrub experience in an ambulatory surgery facility required.
- Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) required.
- Certified Surgical Technician (CST) preferred.
- Ophthalmology skills required.
