Agile Developer PositionThis position supports the Distribution Team effort program at Fort Meade, MD, focused on modernizing a legacy operational system using a microservices-based architecture and cutting-edge cloud technologies. The Agile Developer will design, develop, and deliver Java Spring Boot-based microservices on AWS, building REST services and CI/CD pipelines within a classified, on-site operational environment.The incumbent will serve as a senior developer who brings proven experience across cloud-native development, CI/CD, and Agile delivery in DoD or IC programs.At Level 3, this position expects a practitioner with 9+ years of experience (BS) or 7+ years (MS) who operates independently within a team-oriented development environment, contributes across the full software delivery lifecycle, and communicates effectively with both technical peers and program stakeholders. All work is performed on-site in a classified facility at Fort Meade.RequirementsAgile Software DevelopmentDeliver software iteratively within an Agile development model using sprints, continuous delivery, and incremental release practicesCollaborate with team members and stakeholders to define requirements, refine user stories, and maintain delivery momentumCommunicate and collaborate effectively with other team members and program stakeholders throughout the development processContribute to sprint planning, retrospectives, and continuous improvement of team development standardsFull-Stack & Microservices DevelopmentWrite Java Spring Boot-based microservice applications utilizing AWS native technologiesBuild REST services with Spring capable of filtering and selecting complex data objectsDesign and implement microservice architectures that support legacy system modernization objectivesIntegrate microservice components with NoSQL and MongoDB datastores using proper query and schema design practicesCI/CD Pipeline ManagementImplement CI/CD principles utilizing Maven, GitLab, and GitOps workflowsBuild and maintain container-based delivery pipelines using Kubernetes and DockerAutomate build, test, and deployment processes to support continuous delivery of classified software productsManage version control and branching strategies in GitLab within a multi-developer team environmentAuthentication & Security IntegrationImplement OAuth/OIDC authentication and authorization patterns within microservice environmentsDevelop software in accordance with secure coding standards applicable to classified IC environmentsAdhere to program-level security policies and contribute to security review processes for software releasesCoordinate with security personnel on software deployment activities within the SCIF environmentTesting & IntegrationDevelop and maintain automated test frameworks using Playwright and Cucumber to support continuous integrationExecute unit, integration, and regression testing across microservice componentsValidate REST service outputs and data integrity across distributed system componentsIdentify and resolve defects, performance issues, and integration failures in classified development environmentsRequired QualificationsProficiency in 2 or more of the following:Java, Spring Boot, or PythonMicroservice architecturesCI/CD tools: AWS tools, Maven, GitLab, GitOps, Kubernetes, DockerDatabase design: NoSQL or MongoDB query and schema designOAuth/OIDC implementationTest frameworks and automation including Playwright and CucumberDesired SkillsJava, Spring Boot, or PythonMicroservice architecture design and implementationCI/CD pipeline tooling (AWS, Maven, GitLab, GitOps, Kubernetes, Docker)NoSQL and MongoDB query and schema designOAuth/OIDC implementation experiencePlaywright and Cucumber test automation frameworksExperience modernizing legacy operational systems in IC or DoD environmentsFamiliarity with classified network and SCIF-based development workflowsEducation, Experience and Clearance RequirementsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent experience) AND 9+ years of relevant software development experienceOR Master's degree with 7+ years of relevant software development experienceExperience must be in DoD/IC classified development environmentActive TS/SCI clearance, Full Scope Polygraph, and Counterintelligence Investigation completed within the last 5 yearsFounded in 1987 and headquartered in Marshall, VA, ALEX - Alternative Experts, LLC (ALEX) is an ISO 9001:2015-certified Women Owned Small Business that's changing the way government does business by delivering a powerful, industry-leading array of core services to help its clients achieve mission-critical objectives.
