After School Program Instructor (Part Time)

Safe Passages’ After School Program provides quality enrichment support services to children and youth through a strong youth development framework. Safe Passages is a provider in the delivering of school-based After School Programs within OUSD schools.

The After School Program Instructor will be part of an after-school team dedicated to providing high quality programming to youth and their families. The position will facilitate activities for students in a structured and supportive environment. After School Program Instructors sessions will be delivered in person, and will report directly to the Safe Passages Expanded Learning Program Coordinator.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure program safety by implementing and enforcing all School Site, and Safe Passages policies.
  • Develop curriculum and instruct enrichment activities for youth within social emotional learning, S.T.E.A.M, health and fitness, youth leadership, and social justice. Enrichment lesson plans are provided for the first 4 months of program.
  • Complete weekly lesson plans for after school enrichment.
  • Provide support with greeting and signing out students accordingly.
  • Support in the data collection process as needed, related to attendance, sign out, etc.
  • Support in the management of after school classes to ensure a safe, engaging learning environment for 10-20 students at a time.
  • Prepare students for performances or presentations at showcases and family events.
  • Provide youth development best practices, monitor student progress and collect surveys as appropriate.
  • Participate in weekly collaborative staff meetings, trainings, and agency-wide professional development trainings quarterly.
  • Collaborate with day-time staff, after school staff, AmeriCorps members, and other partners to deliver enrichment and tutoring to OUSD students.

Qualifications:

  • Passage of fingerprint review by the Department of Justice (DOJ), FBI, and National Sex Offender background checks;
  • A copy of an unexpired government issued ID;
  • Satisfying OUSD's Education Requirement in one of the following ways:
    • A passing score on the Instructional Aide exam (70% or higher); or
    • 48 college credits with their unofficial transcripts; or
    • A bachelors degree
  • Negative tuberculosis or chest x-ray result within the last 3 years;
  • 3.5 hour General & School Personnel Mandated Reporting certificate, or an equivalent training course approved by the California Department of Education;
  • Must be able to complete the following trainings within the first month of hire: Mandated reporter, sexual abuse, sexual harassment, and workplace violence
  • Bilingual applicants are strongly encouraged to apply

  • Ability to develop and implement weekly lesson plans
  • Experience using Microsoft Office and Google Suites
  • Must be dedicated and able to commit to the entire school year. No exceptions.
  • Must have a High School Diploma

Employment Classification: This is a part-time, hourly, at-will, and non-exempt position. The position does not include medical, dental or vision benefits. Part-time employees may opt-in to access tele-health services for medical, mental health, dermatology, nutrition, and other select services.

Work Schedule: 14-25 hours per week, M-F; based on OUSD academic calendar (holidays and teacher professional developments). Must be available all days of the week.

Candidates must be available for school year.

Compensation: $23 - $27 per hour/paid weekly depending on education, experience and references.
