Varian Medical Systems, a Siemens Healthineers company, is hiring an Advanced Manufacturing Engineer for our site in Austin, TX. This is a hands‑on technical role focused on automated manufacturing equipment, vision systems, and technical troubleshooting.

You will design, modify, and improve automated manufacturing systems, cobots, vision inspection systems, fixtures, and production equipment. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.

We’re looking for a strong electromechanical engineer who is comfortable working hands‑on with complex automated equipment—someone who can troubleshoot a cobot, diagnose equipment issues, and make changes or improvements to automated vision and inspection systems.

You’ll partner daily with R&D, Quality, Supply Chain, Operations, and external suppliers, and you’ll set the technical direction for the engineers and technicians around you.

What You Will Do

Automation & Technical Troubleshooting

  • Troubleshoot complex automated, electrical, mechanical, and system‑level issues on manufacturing equipment.
  • Support, modify, and optimize robotic applications, automated assembly systems, fixtures, tooling, and manufacturing equipment.
  • Diagnose equipment issues involving controls, sensors, motion, tooling, fixtures, and system integration.
  • Lead root‑cause investigations and implement sustainable technical solutions to improve equipment reliability and performance.

Vision Systems & Manufacturing Equipment

  • Develop, troubleshoot, modify, and improve automated manufacturing equipment, fixtures, test systems, and machine vision applications.
  • Manage external equipment suppliers end to end: requirements, vendor selection, design reviews, FAT/SAT, and equipment acceptance.
  • Identify and lead automation and capital projects that improve safety, quality, throughput, and cost, including building the justification and owning the budget and schedule.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize cobots (e.g., UR7e) and machine vision systems used for automated assembly and in‑process quality inspection.
  • Implement changes and improvements to vision applications, including inspection criteria, cameras, lighting, sensors, and system performance.
  • Support capacity expansion and scaling efforts.
  • Mentor engineers and technicians and serve as the SME for robotics, vision systems, automation, and production equipment.

What You Will Have

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics, robotics engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience in automation, robotics, manufacturing equipment, or advanced manufacturing engineering.
  • Hands‑on experience with electro‑mechanical systems and manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience leading automation or capital equipment projects from requirements through installation, FAT/SAT, qualification, and production release.
  • Direct experience managing external automation or equipment vendors.
  • Hands‑on experience developing, configuring, troubleshooting, or optimizing machine vision systems such as Keyence, Cognex, Omron, or equivalent for in‑line inspection.
  • Experience with industrial robotics such as UR7e, PLC‑controlled equipment, motion control, sensors, and other automated manufacturing technologies.
  • Working knowledge of DOE, statistical analysis, process capability, MSA, and Gage R&R.
