About the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery

The Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at Dell Medical School is dedicated to delivering comprehensive,high-acuity surgical care while advancing innovation in clinicalpractice, education, and research. Our team provides the fullcontinuum of care for patients with complex cardiac, thoracic, andvascular conditions, in close collaboration with partners acrosscritical care, cardiology, and anesthesiology.

• Complex aortic surgery , including open andhybrid approaches to thoracic aortic aneurysms anddissections.
• Cardiogenic shock , with robust integration oftemporary and durable mechanical circulatory support includingextra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).
• Heart transplantation and advanced heartfailure therapies.

• Delivering high-value, multidisciplinary care centered onpatient outcomes.
• Training the next generation of cardiovascular and thoracicsurgeons and intensivists.
• Advancing research in surgical innovation, critical care, andsystems-based performance improvement.

About the Adult Intensivist Position

Dell Medical School is seeking a board-certified or board-eligibleCritical Care Physician to join the Department of Cardiovascularand Thoracic Surgery. The successful candidate will help shape a high-performing, multidisciplinary team delivering post-operativecare to adult patients undergoing advanced cardiovascular andthoracic procedures.

This is a unique opportunity to practice in a state-of-the-artCVSICU, collaborate with top-tier faculty, and participate inacademic pursuits in a thriving, mission-driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Deliver expert care to critically ill cardiovascular andthoracic surgical patients in the CVSICU.
• Collaborate closely with surgical and critical care teams in amultidisciplinary, team-based model.
• Participate in bedside teaching, simulation, and didactics formedical students, residents, and advanced practice providers.
• Engage in research and scholarly activity (clinical,translational, health services, or basic science).
• Contribute to departmental governance, academic programming,and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

Required:

• MD or DO from an accredited institution.
• Board certified or eligible in critical care medicine(anesthesiology, internal medicine, or surgery-based pathway).
• Fellowship training completion in critical care medicine.
• Eligible for unrestricted Texas medical license prior to startdate.
• Demonstrated experience managing complex cardiovascular ICUpatients.
• Strong procedural skills and clinical judgment.
• Outstanding communication, collaboration, and leadershipabilities.
• Commitment to academic excellence and clinical innovation.
• Able to foster a culture of teamwork, professionalism, andempathy in the ICU
• Eligible for academic appointment as Assistant or AssociateProfessor.
