Brief Position Overview
The Office of Admissions is a dynamic team working together to recruit new students to Montana State University Billings. The Admissions Counselor is responsible for recruiting students for both MSU Billings University and City College campuses including high school graduates, transfer students and adult learners. Additionally, Admissions Counselor assist with questions pertaining to general campus information through face-to-face, virtual, phone, text, and email to support those seeking information about attending MSUB. This position supports the division by providing quality customer service and supporting students from their first inquiry through enrollment.
Admissions Counselors provides outstanding customer service to students and their families and are cross trained in MSUB's degree and certificated programs and is an integral part of the MSUB Community. Training, professional development, and opportunities to serve on various campus committees and initiatives are an integral part of the position.

Under supervision from the Associate Director of Admissions, Recruitment, this individual:
- Travels (out of state and within Montana) representing MSUB to visit with prospective students about University and City College programs and opportunities
- Establishes and maintains relationship with high school and college personnel
- Performs necessary data entry and research analysis associated with Banner, Tableau, recruitment CRM, and other campus software
- Coordinates and conducts prospective students' visits and tours to the University
- Educates prospective students on the enrollment and matriculation process
- Assists with on-campus and off campus recruitment programs
- Meets with prospective students and families on campus to go over the enrollment process and show prospective student around campus.
- Participates in campus and community marketing efforts
- Assists with Campus Events (i.e.: Preview Days, Orientations, Registration events, and other recruitment/outreach events)
- Works with the Admissions Team to set recruitment goals and outcomes
- Manages assigned recruitment territories
- Refers students to campus and community resources as needed to address barriers
- Collaborates with academic departments, professional and faculty advisors, the advising center, admissions, financial aid, and all MSUB student support services and campus programs for all five colleges
- Bachelor's degree and/or related experience in a higher education setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience required
- Demonstrated commitment to students and to public education
- High-level of professionalism and creativity
- Ability to seek out opportunities and venues to recruit students
- Demonstrated interest and experience in working with diverse populations
- Proven ability to work well both independently and as a positive and contributing member of a team
- Demonstrated strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills with the added ability to provide attention to detail
- Excellent project management abilities, interpersonal skills, and oral and written communication skills
- Ability to effectively interact and develop working & professional relationships
- Ability to navigate computer programs including Microsoft Office Products
- Willingness and ability to work evenings, weekends, other non-traditional hours and travel by both airplane and automobile during the year. The typical heavy travel season is typically September through November, and February through April.
- Knowledge of basic skills in active listening, rapport building and/or individualized student support models
- Experience working in team settings and interdisciplinary collaboration
- Demonstrated experience working independently and exercising sound judgment
- Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office
- Possess a valid driver's license
- Familiarity with higher education setting, or similar experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of recruiting and marketing principles
- Familiarity with MSUB academic policies and procedures
- Familiar with campus/community stakeholders such as Montana High Schools, transfer colleges, tribal schools and colleges, and Gear Up high schools in the surrounding areas
- Knowledgeable about higher education student services and program support offerings
- Experienced use of computer software programs and social media platforms
